Welcome to the Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake Trophy guide & Roadmap!
- 2/10 Estimated Difficulty on Dracky Quest
- 45 – 55 Estimated Hours to Completion
- 1 Minimum Play-Throughs
- 0 Missable Trophies
- 0 Difficulty Related Trophies
- 0 Online Trophies
In terms of Trophies, there is nothing missable here. There is free roam after the game, so anything you miss can be cleaned up post game.
Dracky Quest
There are no difficulty related requirements for anything here. If you play on the easiest difficulty setting, Dracky Quest, you will not be able to die. You and your party’s health will not drop below 1 HP. This difficulty makes the game trivially easy, but it does not disable Trophies.
Monster Wrangler
When choosing your party, you’re going to want to have a Monster Wrangler with you in order to make collecting friendly monster much easier. When approaching some monsters, they may flee. If they flee, just exit the area and re-enter to try again. When the monster flees, it will give a reason as to why. Depending on the reason, you will need to use an ability or item in order to get close enough to the monster to recruit it.
- Noticed You – Use the Mage’s/Sage’s Fade spell or Fading Jenny item before approaching the monster.
- Hears You – Use the Thief’s Padfoot ability before approaching the monster.
- Smells You – Use a Musk item before approaching the monster.
However, if you have a Monster Wrangler in your party, you will not need to use any of those items or abilities. You’ll be able to just walk up to every one of them with no issue.
1000 Battles / Defeated Monsters
The “Brilliant Battler” Trophy is earned by winning 1,000 battles. So while you play, you’re going to want to make sure you are not feeling from battles. You’re going to want to win as many battles as you can while playing through the game so that you are always making progress toward this Trophy. It’s a lot of battles but between the story and XP grinding for spells and abilities, you’ll be able to reach it without having to go out of your way for it post game.
Not only will fighting every battle make progress toward your 1000 wins, but it will also greatly help in defeating every type of monster. There are different types of monsters found across the map, so you’re going to defeat a majority of the monsters while you’re winning 1000 battles.
Learning Every Spell and Ability
As you and your party level up, new spells and abilities will be unlocked. In order to earn every spell and ability, you will need to use every class in the game.
Once a party member has learned all of their class abilities/spells, you can go to the Alltrades Abbey and change their class. Doing so will reset that character’s level back down to 1, but they will retain everything they have previously learned. Doing this actually makes your party members stronger in the long run.

Full Enemy List
Item Aficionado
Awarded for obtaining 250 items.
This is for picking up 250 unique items across your playthrough. There are 300 different items, so you don’t have to find them all. Items can be found in chests and sparkle locations on the world map. They can also be found in pots, barrels, bookshelves, nightstands and bags hanging from walls. So, whenever you enter a new town, make sure to search through those in order to find more items. Pots, barrels and hanging bags can also be found in secret areas on the world map. Secret areas are unmarked locations on the world map that are small groups of trees, boulders and rocks sticking out of the water. You’ll enter just about all of these when collecting all Friendly Monsters as well as Mini Medals.
You can keep track of how many items you have by going to the Misc menu > Types of Items Collected on the right side of the screen.
Able Conjurer
Awarded for learning all spells and abilities.
As you and your party level up, new spells and abilities will be unlocked. In order to earn every spell and ability, you will need to use every class in the game. In order to check what spells and abilities you have unlocked, go to Spells/Abilities > Choose a character. They will all be listed. Any that you do not have will be labeled as “???.” Once you no longer have any “???” in your lists, that character has learned all of their current class’ abilities or spells.
Once a party member has learned all of their class abilities/spells, you can go to the Alltrades Abbey and change their class. Doing so will reset that character’s level back down to 1, but they will retain everything they have previously learned. Doing this actually makes your party members stronger in the long run.
Spells and abilities are learned not at a specific level, but within a range of levels depending on the character’s wisdom stat. If their wisdom is higher than required, the spell/ability will be learned earlier. If not, the spell/ability will be learned at back end of the level range. If it sounds confusing, don’t worry. Ultimately, just keep leveling up and all of the spells/abilities will eventually be learned.
If you need to farm XP, you can farm Liquid Metal Slimes. They can be found in a few different areas, but the best location is found late in the story on a small island just north of Talontear Tunnel. They tend to immediately flee and they are hard to hit. They are immune to just about everything other than basic attacks. There are a few pieces of equipment/abilities you can use to help increase your chances of killing these. Killing a Metal Slime or a Liquid Metal Slime will also earn you the “Metallic Masher” Trophy.
- Assassin’s Stab – Thief
- Falcon Blade – Bought in Kol
- Headman’s Axe – Found in Baramos’ Lair
- Puff! – Mage & Sage
- Pressure Pointer – Warrior
If you don’t want to bother with Liquid Metal Slimes, you can drop the difficulty to Dracky Quest to prevent losing battles. Then, head to the 3rd floor of the cave labeled ??? late in the game to farm Hydra enemies. Defeating 3 in one battle will result in 70,000+ XP.

Grand Designs
Awarded for obtaining the grand medal.
This is earned by beating the final boss in the game, Grand Dragon. In order to reach the Grand Dragon, you will need to have chosen the blank wish upon beating Xenlon. After that, return to Aliahan and exit town. Ride Ramia north toward the shinning light in the sky. Enter that light and you’ll be transported to the Temple of Trials. You’ll need to complete all of the Trials and the final task will be a fight against the Grand Dragon. Beating the boss will earn you the Grand Medal.
If you beat the Grand Dragon in 10 or fewer turns, you will not be able to challenge it again. You can make a manual save before fighting the boss just in case you want to fight it again.
Farewell, Mortal
Awarded for having Xenlon grant every one of your wishes.
Xenlon is an endgame boss that you can fight. Xenlon will offer you a selection of wishes upon beating him as long as you were able to beat him in a certain amount of turns. First fight will be 25 turns, second fight will be 20 turns and everything else after that will be 15 turns.
15 turns can be tricky so here are a couple of tips to maximize damage and attacks.
- Collect the Duplic Hat from a sparkly spot just west and slightly north of Manoza. You’ll need to fly on Ramia in order to reach it as it is in the mountains. The Duplic Hat will allow the wearer to attack twice in a single turn. The second attack does not use MP either. The Mage, Sage and Gadabout can wear the Duplic Hat.
- Use the Wild Side ability with your Monster Wrangler. This will allow them to attack twice per turn as well. After using Wild Side, use Monster Pile-On on your next turn. Monster Pile-On will do more damage depending on how many friendly monsters you have recruited. If you have recruited as many as possible up until this point, Monster Pile-On will do 600+ damage per attack. Pairing that with Wild Side will give you 1,200+ damage per turn.
As for the wishes, you’re able to select one wish per successful battle. So you will need to fight Xenlon multiple times.
- Compete in a New Monster Arena
- Bring Ortega Back to Life
- Become History’s Trendiest Hero
- Obtain a Powerful Weapon
- Obtain a copy of “Buns ‘N’ Guns”
- – This option is left blank, but you do need to select it. It will grant you access to the Temple of Trials.
- Obtain a copy of “More Guns ‘N’ Buns”
Monster Monitor
Awarded for rescuing all friendly monsters.
There are 121 friendly monsters that need to be collected. You will be introduced to friendly monitors automatically as you near the end of the Shrine of Promise early on in the story. An NPC named Monty the Monster Monitor will speak to you about friendly monsters and request that you help him rescue them. From there, you will be able to encounter monsters and recruit them. Before going for friendly monsters, you should have a Monster Wrangler in your party.
After you have collected every monster, return to Monty at any of the Monster Arenas and speak with him.
Many a Medal
Awarded for getting all Morgan Minimann’s prizes.
Morgan Minimann is found down at the bottom of the well in Aliahan in a house. He will give you rewards for bringing him mini medals. Mini medals are small medals that you can collect and there are 110 of them to find. These can be found buried in the ground, inside of chests as well as inside of barrels and pots.
Once you have found all 110, return to Morgan Minimann and speak with him again to get the final reward. Doing so will pop the Trophy.
Monster Champion
Awarded for winning the rank-11 monster arena tournament.
You’ll meet Monty the Monster Monitor as part of the story. When you do, he will explain friendly monsters to you. After collecting friendly monsters, you can then use them to battle other monsters in monster arenas. The more monsters you collect of the same type, the stronger that type will become for arena battles. Collecting all monsters is required for the Platinum, so you’ll fully level them all up by simply collecting them all.
There are multiple Monster Arenas across the map and you will need to battle and win every rank in each arena in order to earn this Trophy.
- Romaria
- Rank 1
- Rank 2
- Ibis
- Rank 3
- Rank 4
- Manoza
- Rank 5
- Rank 6
- Rank 7
- Cantlin
- Rank 8
- Rank 9
- Jipang
- Rank 10
- Rank 11
The Monster Arena in Jipang will not become available until you have defeated Xenlong and chose the wish, “Compete in a New Monster Arena.” Once you have made the wish, the arena can then be found at the bottom of the well in Jipang.
Brilliant Battler
Awarded for winning 1000 battles.
As you play through the game, do not flee from battles or use items/spells/abilities that reduce random encounters. Make sure you are fighting and winning every battle you find yourself in. You can check your progress on this by going into the Misc menu > Info > Battles Won.
Sparkle Spotter
Awarded for interacting with 100 sparkly spots on the world map.
Sparkly spots are spots on the over world map that are sparkling. You’ll know them when you come across them. These can be found out in the water as well. When you come across one, walk up to it and interact with it to collect the items found within the sparkly spot. There are more than 100 of these spots. So you’ll find enough of them as long as you thoroughly explore the overworld map as you make your way from location to location.
Much Ado about Money
Awarded for earning 100,000 gold coins over the course of your adventure.
For this, you do not need to have all 100,000 on you at the same time. This is cumulative across your entire playthrough. You’ll earn money by winning battles, finding it in chests and by selling items at vendors. The fastest way to earn the most money is to compete in the Monster Arena.
Tonnes of Treasure
Awarded for opening 100 treasure chests.
There are chests that can be found all across the map in secret areas, towns, inside of buildings as well as inside of dungeons. There are more than 100 chests, so as long as you’re thorough while exploring, you’ll find and open enough of these with no issue.
Metallic Masher
Awarded for defeating a metal slime or liquid metal slime for the first time.
See the “Able Conjurer” Trophy for more details on battling Metal Slimes and Liquid Metal Slimes.
Juggling Jobs
Awarded for changing vocations for the first time.
See the “Sage Advice” Trophy/Achievement below for more details.
Wakey-Wakey, Rise and Shiiine
Awarded for removing the curse placed on Norvik.
Norvik is a town that is found just north of Khoryv. When you get there, you’ll notice everyone is sleeping and can’t wake up.
- Leave Norvik and head west to Faerie Village.
- When you enter Faerie Village, go into the building to the north and speak with the Queen.
- After that conversation, leave the village and southwest to the Underground Lake.
- Enter the dungeon and make your way to the very end where you can find the Dreamstone as well as a letter from the Queen’s daughter. Pick up the items and then return to the Queen in Faerie Village.
- Show the Queen the items and she will give you the Wakey Dust.
- Return to Norvik and you’ll be prompted to wake everyone in town up.
Heroic Headwear
Awarded for obtaining the auroral helm.
There are several steps that are required in order to acquire the auroral helm.
First, you’re going to need to get Ortega’s Helm. This is found in Mur. Enter Mur and then head to the item shop in the northeastern building and go through the entrance on the east side of the building. Speak with the NPC sitting at the table with the “!” over his head. From there, go upstairs to hear more information about Ortega. After the conversation, go back downstairs and you’ll speak with the NPC behind the counter wearing green and he will give you the helmet.
Then, you need to go to Quagmire Cave. Once inside, head to the southeast corner of the cave and speak to the NPCs down there.
After speaking to the NPCs in Quagmire Cave, travel to Reeve. Go into the house in the northeast corner of town. Head upstairs and speak to the NPC and he will give you another wrecking ball.
Once you have the wrecking ball, travel to Lanson and go to Gaia’s Navel. You’re going to need to make your way to B3 inside of Gaia’s Navel. On B1, take the southeastern exit. On B2, take the top right staircase. In B3, take the staircase in the middle by going south. In the following room, interact with the crystals on the wall to the right and use the wrecking ball. Pick up the zenithium on the ground and then travel to Shrine of the Dwarf. A conversation will begin automatically when you enter the shrine. The Dwarf will combine the zenithium and Ortega’s Helm to create the Auroral Helm.
Stately Sword
Awarded for obtaining the Sword of Kings.
In order to get the Sword of Kings, you will need to get 2 items and complete a short side quest.
- First, you will need to get the Orichalcum item from the town of Damdara. It is found inside of the stables where the horses are. It will be a sparkle on the ground in the stables.
- Next, you will need to go to the town of Cantalin. Enter the building on the middle/left side of town. Go up the stairs inside and then enter the room on the left. Interact with the sparkle on the table in the room.
Once you have those two items, go to the town of Kol. Enter the item shop and go upstairs to speak with the NPC behind the counter. He will tell you that he no longer has his tools for smithing. Fast travel to Jipang and speak to the NPC dressed in white on the west side of the well. He will be standing on a raised portion of the ground near a house. After speaking with him, go inside of the nearby house and interact with the sparkle on the floor. This will give you the required tools. Return to the shopkeeper in Kol and speak with him again. He’ll take his tools and will use the two items to create the Sword of Kings.
Rip-Off Merchant
Awarded for being ripped off.
This is earned in Asham at the item shop in the northwest corner of town. Go inside and speak to the NPC behind the counter. Choose any item from him to buy and he will try to sell it to you for a very high price. You can tell him “no” three times to reduce the price. Buy any item from him to pop this. Make a save before doing this and reload your file afterwards to get your money back, if you’d like.
Puffection
Awarded for enjoying a puff-puff.
This is earned in Asham at night. Go to the building on the middle left of town and speak to the woman standing in front of the door at night. Answer “yes” to all of her requests and she will take you upstairs. After the cut scene, exit the building and this will then pop. This can only be done with a male character. If you did not choose a male character, you can move a male character from your party to the first slot and earn this.
Sage Advice
Awarded for obtaining the sage vocation.
You can change vocations for your party members at Alltrades Abbey. Alltrades Abbey is located to the north of Baharata. In order to change a vocation for a party member, they will need to be at least at level 20. At Alltrades Abbey, enter and speak the NPC in red robes on the north side of the room. He will allow you to select a party member and what vocation you want to change them to. Changing your job to anything will earn the “Juggling Jobs” Trophy/Achievement. If you change to a sage for the first time you switch vocations, you’ll also earn the “Sage Advice” Trophy/Achievement.
There are 2 methods to acquire a sage for your party.
- Gadabout
If you have a Gadabout vocation in your party, you can switch them to a sage once they reach level 20 by visiting Alltrades Abbey and speaking with the NPC. Once a character reaches level 20, their vocation can be switched. However, only the gadabout can be switched into a sage.
- Words of Wisdom
Words of Wisdom is a one time use item that will allow you to change ANY vocation into a sage by visiting the NPC at Alltrades Abbey. Just like with the Gadabout method, the chosen party member will need to be at least level 20 for this.
The Words of Wisdom item is found inside of the Tower of Transcendence. In order to reach it, you’re going to need to take the northwestern stair case on the first floor. From there, go across the rope (use the D-Pad to cross) to the other side. Go down the stairs on the other side of the rope and use the teleporter. Then, you’ll be in the center of the first floor with three staircases. Go up the middle staircase. On the second floor, there will be two staircases. Take the southern staircase. From there, keep going up the staircases until you are on the fifth floor. Walk out onto the rope on the fifth floor and fall off of it on the right side of the red flag hanging in the middle. When you land on the floor below, walk off the edge and you’ll fall down again. This time, you’ll land on the platform with the chest that holds the Words of Wisdom.
Join the Party
Awarded for adding someone to your party for the first time.
You can add members to your party at any time during the story. While it is optional, you will be asked to have characters join your party early on near the beginning of the game. Party member can be recruited on the second floor of the building on the top left corner of Aliahan.
Regal Ruler
Awarded for acquiescing to the king’s request to become ruler of Romaria.
This can be earned after beating Robbin’ ‘Ood at Skyfell Tower. After he is beaten, he will drop the King’s Crown. Pick it up and then return to Romaria. Go to the castle and speak to the King. He will ask you if you want to be the king. Select, “Yes” and this Trophy/Achievement will pop after the following dialogue. Go to the Monster Arena and speak with the King to give him back his crown. Doing so will allow you to leave and carry on with the rest of the game.
Undoing Death
Awarded for reviving yourself at a church for the first time.
In order to earn this, you and your entire party are going to have to die. Once you’re all dead, choose the option, “Continue From a Church.” Once you respawn at the church, this will pop.
This cannot be earned on “Dracky Quest” difficulty as you cannot fall below 1 HP.
Finders Keepers
Awarded for obtaining the golden claws and escaping the great pyramid’s basement.
The Golden Claws are found down in the basement of the pyramid in the desert. You have to go here as part of the story. Once you’re there, enter the pyramid via the opening to the left of the main entrance. Once inside, go to the northwest corner. There will be two big statues there. The one on the left is damaged. Interact with it and will move to the side revealing a staircase. Go down the stairs. In the next area, follow the path all the way to the end where you will come across a sarcophagus. Open it to receive the Golden Claws. Picking them up will place a curse on you. The curse will increase your random battle rate. So, head back the way you came and exit the pyramid. You’re going to have to fight a lot of battles on the way out. The Trophy/Achievement will pop once you exit the pyramid.
