The guide below is written based off of the normal difficulty setting.

More Master Collection Guides

Dock

From the start, there is a Ration below you in the water. Pick it up if you’d like and then go back up the stairs to crawl under the pipe to the left. Get up and wait in the corner ahead of you.

If you went and got the Ration in the water, the guards should be gone. If not, wait for the two guards to turn around. The one above you will turn around and head back up. The one to your right will turn up the middle row.

When they’re both turned around or the path is clear, run straight across over to the last row on the right. Avoid the puddle as the guards will hear it if they are nearby. If you run close to the railing below the puddle, you wont step in it.

There is a Ration over in the bottom right corner of the area if you want to grab it.

From the far right side, you need to run straight up. If you picked up both Rations so far, there will likely be a guard coming down toward you from the right side row. If he’s there, just wait for him to pass. Once it’s clear, run up the path on the right. You should be clear to make it to the top right corner of the room.

If you skipped the two Rations, the guard in the middle row will likely be looking in your direction, just keep running. You’ll be just outside of his vision cone.

A lot of this is all timing. If you picked up the two Rations, the guards will be in different positions than if you ignored the Rations.

As you pass by, you’ll step in a puddle. If the middle guard is near, he will hear this, but that’s okay. Just keep running to the top right corner.

Get behind the cover in the top right corner of the room and wait. There will be a Ration here as well. The time it takes for the elevator to come down will depend on what difficulty you’re playing on. You’ll need to pay attention while waiting here as the two guards will get close to where you’re hiding.

When the guard comes from the left, get to the right side of the cover. When the guard comes from below, get behind the top side of the cover.

Once the elevator arrives, there will be a guard on it. Wait for him to step off. He’ll look to the left and then right. He’ll look directly at where you’re hiding so, just wait. As soon as he looks down, he’ll start walking in that direction which allows you an opening to run over and get on the elevator. As soon as you get on, this section will be completed.

Heliport

There are a few items we can grab here on the Heliport before heading inside of the base. They are not required, but you never know if you’ll need them.

Go over to the right side of the actual helipad and wait. Once the spotlights split the middle, run straight across. Do not stop at all. Run through the middle picking up the Chaff Grenades. Don’t stop until you exit the helipad via the left ramp. You have to be very quick here.

From the left side of the helipad, continue left and you’ll find a room with a camera. Step into the run and Snake will say, “A surveillance camera?” After that, throw a Chaff Grenade into the room. When it explodes, run inside and grab the Stun Grenades. Quickly exit the room before the Chaff Grenade wears off.

After exiting the Stun Grenade room, run up and to the left where you’ll come to a parked truck.

At the back of the truck, lean against it and then press / /  to climb in. Go behind the box in the back of the truck and pick up the Socom.

HINT: There will be more of these trucks in different areas of the game. Famously, you can find and hide in cardboard boxes in Metal Gear Solid. Each of the cardboard boxes are labeled with different locations on this base. So, if you climb into these trucks and equip a cardboard box, a guard will drive you to the location labeled on the box. Think of it like a fast travel system.

Exit the back of the truck and head over to the right. There is a Ration over here behind one of the steal boxes in the snow, but if you haven’t taken damage and picked up the two in the Dock, your Ration inventory will be full.

Get near the camera and wait for it to look left. When it does, run up the stairs. You could use a Chaff Grenade here if you feel like it’s needed, but this camera is easy to get by without having to use a Chaff Grenade.

There is a guard patrolling upstairs, so watch out. If he is above you, just crouch and wait for him to leave.

When the path is clear, go to the middle of the walkway and crawl into the open vent to complete this area.

Tank Hangar – DARPA Chief

From the ladder you climb down, go left to find some more Chaff Grenades. Then head to the right a few steps. There will be camera in the corner. Throw a Chaff Grenade and then quickly run by the camera and down the walkway.

Go into the open door on your right just after the last camera. There is another camera in here. There is also a pair of Thermal Goggles in the bottom right corner of the small room.

If you’re fast enough, you can actually get those Thermal Goggles while the Chaff Grenade you previously threw is still active. If not, throw another Chaff Grenade and get the Thermal Goggles.

Exit the room with the Thermal Goggles and follow the walkway all the way around.

You’ll come to a camera guarding the stairs. There will also be two guards patrolling the bottom floor.

Make sure you see where the closest guard downstairs is and throw a Chaff Grendade. Go down the stairs and then go behind the stairs to find Socom Ammo. From there, get to the elevator at the top center of the room and interact with the control panel to call it. If it doesn’t open right away, interact with it again and it will immediately open. Get inside and go to floor B1.

Exit the elevator and follow the hallway down and then eventually right. Climb up the ladder.

Back in the vents, crawl through it. You’ll come to a path that goes left. There is Socom Ammo at the end of that left vent path. You can also hold / / and look down at the first grate to spy on Johnny for a quick second here.

Either continue through or get back to the original vent path and crawl through until you reach the very end. Hold / / and look down at the very last grate to initiate the cutscene with the DARPA Chief. Looking down at the grate before the DARPA Chief’s room will give you a quick look at Meryl.

ArmsTech President Baker

After the scene with the DARPA Chief, wait in the cell until the door opens. Before leaving the cell, crawl under the bed to get a Ration if you need it.

When you step out, it’ll be time to fight off a wave of enemies. There will be three enemies per wave. The best way through this is to use your Socom. The game will auto aim at the enemies when you aim the Socom, so just keep shooting and it should automatically aim at each enemy. Three grenades will be thrown toward you near the end of the wave survival, so be ready to get out of the way.

After the fight, you can pick up some Socom ammo in the bathroom and by the desk across from the two cells. You’ll need to equip the Lv. 1 Card to get back into the Cells area.

Get back to the elevator and ride it down to B2.

Equip the Lv. 1 Card and start collecting ammo on the floor. There will be no enemies patrolling, but there are trap doors. If you hear a noise while running, just keep going. Don’t stop, otherwise you’ll fall into a trap door. You can see where the trap doors are by wearing the Thermal Goggles.

Pick up the C4 in the middle room of the top floor.

Socom ammo can be found in the middle room of the bottom row. The door to this room will already be open.

Grenades can be found in the room on the left of the bottom row.

There are weak points on the walls around the floor that you can use C4 on. Look for sections of walls that are different colors. They also sound different if you knock on them.

Place C4 on them or in front of them to blow them open.

Stun Grenades and Chaff Grenades can be found in the hidden room to the top left of the floor.

Socom ammo and C4 can be found in the hidden room in the top right corner of the room. There are also two trap doors in this room.

When you’re ready to progress the story, go to the bottom left corner and blow open the wall.

Enter the opening and go down to the lower bottom right to blow up another weak point in the wall.

There are two weak wall points in the following hallway. The one on the top leads to Baker and a fight against Ocelot. The one on the right, leads to a room with two gun cameras and C4. If you go in there, use Chaff Grenades.

Enter the room with Baker and it’ll be time for the first boss fight. This will be against Ocelot.

Ocelot will be running around the room shooting at you. You need to chase him and shoot him. Do not cross through middle of the room. Doing so will trip the explosives which will kill Baker and fail the fight.

If you hit Ocelot, don’t keep firing. You wont be able to continuously damage him with multiple shots. You can’t damage him again until his character model stops flashing. So save your ammo. Shoot him and then continue to run after him. If he runs clockwise, you run counter clockwise (and vice versa) to cut him off.

Meeting Meryl

After the fight against Ocelot, your health and weapon capacities will increase a little bit. You will also now have the Lv. 2 Card.

Exit this room and get back to the main B2 floor.

Once there, call 140.15 on your Codec to speak to Meryl.

Pick up the Socom ammo from the middle room of the bottom row if needed.

Go into the room on the far right of the bottom row. Once inside, equip the Thermal Goggles and crawl under the lasers to pick up the Fa-mas and ammo.

Exit this room and get back to the elevator. Take it up to floor 1.

Once there, you’ll receive a call from Meryl telling you that the cargo door is now open. That’s where we need to go to advance the story, but there are some items in the Tank Hangar that we can get first.

Exit the elevator and go to the right side of room with the Lv. 2 Card equipped. Open the double doors to the right of the cargo door and go inside. There will be a sleeping guard. The Socom Suppressor will be next to him. Get the Suppressor quick, because the guard does briefly wake up. So grab it and get out of there.

Equip the Socom and the Suppressor will be automatically equipped to the Socom.

Get over to the stairs on the opposite side of the room. There will be a guard patrolling this floor, so watch out for him.

Go up the stairs. About halfway up, use a Chaff Grenade. Get by the camera and enter the Lv. 2 door right next to the camera.

You can find Chaff Grenades inside as well as the Cardboard Box A.

Exit that room and go over to the opposite side of this walkway. This is where we entered the Tank Hangar via ladder earlier in the game. There will be an enemy patrolling over there. You can use the now suppressed Socom to quietly take him out.

Get somewhat close without getting spotted and shoot at him. If you miss, you wont be detected, just adjust your aim and try again. If you hit him, immediately shoot again to kill him before raising the alarm.

Get into the Lv. 2 room in the corner near the camera and you can find a Mine Detector.

Now, exit this room, get back downstairs and head for the cargo bay door that Meryl opened.

Enter and then stop. Equip your Thermal Goggles to see the laser traps. If you didn’t pick up the Thermal Goggles, you can use the Cigarettes to help see the lasers.

Wait for the laser to go up and then crawl forward. As you get by where the laser hits the ground, turn Snake’s body horizontally and wait for the next laser to pass and then continue. It can be kind of hard to see what laser is next, so stare at the next indent on the ground ahead of you. When you see the laser hit the ground in front of you, you’ll clearly be able to tell which laser is which.

Repeat that all the way to the end.

At the end, equip the Lv. 2 Card to open the door. It’ll now be time for another boss fight.

Tank Boss Fight

There will be a grouping of mines just ahead of you in the beginning of the Canyon. If you have the Mine Detector equipped, they’ll show up on your radar.

You can crawl over the mines to pick them up.

Head further into the canyon and a scene will play. This will be the start of the boss fight against the Tank.

You’ll be taking cover behind a boulder to start the fight. Throw a Chaff Grenade and then run toward the tank when it explodes. The Chaff Grenade will prevent the Tank from using the cannon.

Equip your normal Grenades and Rations.

All you have to do here is get near the tank and throw Grenades at the Gunner. If you throw one close enough, the Grenade will go into the seat of the Gunner and do a big chunk of damage. When he flies out of the seat, another soldier will take his place. Just do the same thing with Grenades again.

You’ll need to be quick to avoid being run over by the Tank. If you can stay close enough to it, it won’t be able to use the cannon as it won’t have the required range. You’ll only need to worry about avoiding the gunfire and being run over.

Nuke Bldg 1

After the fight, you’ll automatically be in the Nuke Storage Building 1. Your health, Rations and ammo capacities will increase a bit. You will also now have the LV. 3 Card.

There is a Ration on the left side at the very end of the catwalk.

Run to the big door and crawl underneath it.

On the other side, you’ll receive a call from Campbell telling you that you cannot use weapons in this room. You can still use Chaff Grenades, however.

There is another fast travel truck in this room straight ahead from where you crawled in. We don’t need it right now, and there is nothing inside of it.

There is some Fa-mas ammo to the right of the truck, but it can be tricky to get without being seen as there are guards patrolling as well as a camera near by. If you’re spotted in this room, you’ll be locked in and gas will be deployed. We don’t have a gas mask yet, so that would all but guarantee a death.

So for now, we are gonna just get through this room and on to the next.

After the Codec call about your weapons, go left and then quickly go up between the first row of nukes. There is an enemy nearby headed your way, so be fast.

At the top, go left. There are Chaff Grenades on your path you can grab here. Grab them and head down. There are also some Grenades across from the base of the stairs in the bottom left corner of the first floor.

Go up the stairs. Watch out for a guard up here patrolling. When he heads the opposite way, go to the elevator and take it down to B1.

Rescue Otacon

Exit the elevator and equip the Lv. 3 Card. Enter the main room across from the elevator. There is an enemy using the bathroom nearby. If you’re fast enough, you can get in and out of here before he joins the other guard on patrol. Or, you can go in the bathroom and take him out.

There are several offices inside of the main room, but we only have access to one at the moment. There will be another guard in the main room that you can either sneak around or kill.

Go to the first room on the right side and pick up the Nikita Launcher as well as the ammo for it.

Exit the main room and get back to the elevator. Ride it down to B2.

Exit the elevator and enter the two doors ahead of you.

Do not step out onto the grating. The floor is electrified. In addition to that, the area is full of gas. Pay attention to your O2 meter. If it gets too low, exit the air to refill it.

Equip the Nikita, and fire a missile down the hallway.

You’ll be able to control the missile that you fire with the Nikita.

While the missile is flying, hold  /  / to enter a first person view of the missile.

You’re going to need to maneuver it to the electric panel to disable the electrified floor.

At the end of the hallway, turn the missile right.

In the next room, turn the missile right and fly it to the back of the room.

The cameras in this area can shoot and destroy your Nikita missile. You can fly the missile into the wall under a camera to destroy them if needed.

At the back of this room, turn the missile slight left and fly it in-between a sliding glass door.

As soon as you get through the sliding door, turn right and then fly into the electrical panel on the wall.

With the electrical box destroyed, the floor will be safe to walk on.

Go down to the third room on the right of the first hallway. Throw a Chaff Grenade and go inside to find a Gas Mask.

There are other items in this area you can grab if you’d like, but we don’t have access to all of the rooms yet. Everything else that can be found here at this time is listed below.

If you do go get those, make sure to wear the Gas Mask and use Chaff to avoid cameras.

When you’re ready, exit through the door on the right of the main hallway guarded by a camera.

Cyborg Ninja Boss Fight

Make your way through the next short hallway littered with dead soldiers.

As you enter the lab, it’ll be time to fight the Cyborg Ninja.

During this fight, you’re going to need to use your melee attacks. Punch, punch, kick. Your weapons will not work against him. You can use Chaff Grenades, but those are only good for a single combo. Afterwards, he’ll be invulnerable until the Chaff wears off.

This fight will be broken up into a few phases.

First, he’ll be near you with his sword out. Two kick melee combos will be enough to end this phase. He’ll put away his sword.

The next phase will be the longest one. When he gets near you, he’ll combo some lunging kicks together. As he kicks, he’ll be moving toward you.

So, keep moving and get out of his way. If you’re quick, you can land a combo of your own on him after he finishes his kick attack. If you get too close while he is still moving, you’ll take damage.

Every now and then, he’ll mix in a jump attack. He will jump up inn the air and hang for just a quick second and then come straight down. There will be a shockwave where he lands, so makes to get out of the way. You can land a combo on him when he lands.

After this phase, he’ll use his stealth camo. This makes him somewhat invisible. He won’t come after you, instead, he’ll be standing still somewhere in the room and you’ll need to find him.

It is possible to see him normally as the area becomes distorted, but you can use your Thermal Goggles to instantly spot him. When you do see him, run up to him and land a combo.

After this phase, he’ll slowly walk toward you. As you get close, he’ll very quickly disappear and then reappear throwing a punch. Get close to him to bait him into throwing a punch and run away from him. After the throws the punch, there will be a window where you can hit him with a combo.

The final phase will work a little differently. He will be surrounded by an electronic sphere. He won’t come after you, but the sphere will pulse which will damage you if you’re too close. So for this, just go ahead and use your Fa-mas to finish him off from a distance.

After that, the fight will be over and you’ll be introduced to Otacon.

Finding Meryl

After the fight, your health will increase and you will now have the Lv. 4 Card.

Exit this area the way you came in. When you get back to the gas filled hallway, equip your Gas Mask and run straight across to the other side. This will be the area where you shot the Nikita missile.

Drop a Chaff Grenade.

Go up to the last door on the right and equip your Lv. 4 Card. Enter the office and pick up the Night Vision Goggles. This is near the electrical box from earlier.

Exit that door an return to the elevator you used to come here originally.

Ride it up to B1.

From the elevator, enter the main room where the Nikita was found. As soon as you enter, Meryl will be disguised as Genome Soldier.

She’ll be on the left side of the screen. Run into her vision cone and she’ll spot you. She’ll then run to the bathroom to the right of the elevator you just took. Follow her into the last stall to initiate the next cutscene.

Before leaving the women’s bathroom, take a picture of the mirrors above the sinks and save the photo.

If you’re not sure what guard Meryl is, you can look through first person at the way the guards are walking. Meryl will have a distinct walking animation.

Psycho Mantis

After the scene with Meryl in the bathroom, exit and go up the hallway to the left of the elevator. Go through the next two doors and it’ll be time for the next boss fight.

In the original version of Metal Gear Solid, you would have to unplug your controller and plug it into the second controller port.

Obviously, that cannot be done on modern consoles. The Master Collection does however come with a built in digital controller system.

In order to beat Psycho Mantis, you’re going to have to use the digital controller port system to switch over to the second port. This will prevent Psycho Mantis from “reading your mind.” He’ll dodge your attack every time you try to hit him if you don’t switch ports.

With that out of the way, it’ll be time to actually fight him.

His attacks are easily avoided just by moving out of the way. When he uses stealth, you can use Thermal Goggles to track and follow him.

When he takes enough damage, he’ll start levitating things around the room. Lay down prone to avoid the objects he throws at you.

PSG-1

After the fight against Psycho Mantis, collect any ammo you need from the boss fight area and then exit through the doorway in the top right of the room.

In the next area, crawl under the rock and into a cave. There will be wolves in here. You can kill them or try to run by them.

There are items to collect in this cave, but for now, we’re going to just get through to avoid the wolves.

Follow the cave up and to the right. The exit to Meryl is in the bottom right. It’s a little hard to see, so equip your Night Vision Goggles if needed. The exit will be another rock that you have to crawl under. Just like you did to enter this area.

Meet up with Meryl on the other side.

Next, we’re gonna make it so that the wolves do not attack us next time we go through.

Have your Cardboard Box selected as your quick equip item. Punch Meryl once and then quick equip your box. She’ll call the wolf puppy over and he’ll pee on your Cardboard Box. While funny, this will also help us. We are going to have to go through this cave two more times.

When inside of the cave, equip your box and you can run through without the dogs attacking you. You have to remember what box was used for this. It will not work for all of your boxes and will only work with that specific box equipped.

With that done, exit through the big door ahead of you.

Meryl will walk ahead of you leaving a path for you to follow as there are mines in the area.

Wait for her to finish and then you can either follow her, or you can equip your Thermal Goggles to instantly see where the mines are and go around them (depending on the difficulty).

After the following cutscene, it’ll be time to back track all the way to the Tank Hangar.

Backtrack through the wolf cave and then through the the room where you fought Psycho Mantis.

Before riding the elevator, go into the room where you found Meryl in disguise.

The room in the top left has the Cardboard Box B in it.

There are other items you can pick while you’re here:

The Diazpam will help you against an upcoming boss fight against Sniper Wolf, so you should pick that up.

When you’re ready, ride the elevator to Floor 1.

Get off the elevator and crawl under the same big door that you crawled under to enter this section after the Tank boss fight.

If you don’t want to cross the snowfield, you can get in the back of the truck in the Nuke Storage Building and use Cardboard Box A to get a ride to the Heliport. Enter the Tank Hangar. Riding in the truck doesn’t really save too much time, but it’s an option.

If you don’t ride in the truck, exit back into the snowfield where you fought the Tank. There will be gun cameras and mines. Use the Thermal Goggles or Mine Detector to get across the field. You can just stick to the left and should have no problems getting through.

Enter through the big door that leads to the lasers you crawled under before the Tank fight. Don’t worry, the lasers are no longer there. You can freely run through this section.

Get into the elevator and ride down to B2.

Once there, save your game.

Exit the elevator and go to the room on the top left.

Inside, equip your Thermal Goggles. There are lasers in this room in front of the PSG-1.

These lasers are a little tricky as there are some that go vertically. You need to crawl through the middle section at an angle. If you touch a laser, you’ll be alerted. You can reload the save you made in elevator on this floor to try again, if you’d like.

Now that you have the PSG-1, you can take on Sniper Wolf. Collect any other ammo from the B2 floor of the Tank Hangar and then return to where Meryl was shot.

Sniper Wolf Boss Battle

As you enter the battle, quickly run to the left or right side and take cover. Lean up against the wall to get a view of where Sniper Wolf is.

The mines from earlier will be gone, so you don’t have to worry about those. You also cannot go too far down the hallway. You need to stay back near the entrance.

When she takes cover behind the pillar, equip the PSG-1 and you’ll automatically go prone. Quickly take Diazepam.

With the item window open, highlight the Diazepam press / / to take some. Only press it once to take one. Take another when your aim is shaky. Just equipping it will not do anything.

Quickly look up to the pillar where Sniper Wolf took cover and wait for her to peek out. When she does, shoot her. You’ll only do damage with one shot, so don’t waste your ammo.

All you can do here is follow her. She’ll change positions back and forth across the walkway. Don’t waste ammo shooting at her while she runs. Wait for her to stop and take a position to shoot her.

There is PSG-1 ammo on both sides of the area if you need more.

After the fight, run down to where she was and you can find some ammo both upstairs and down.

Go to the door on the right to exit and a scene will then play.

Ocelot’s Torture

You will be captured for this next section.

Ocelot is going to torture you. There are two ways this can go for you. Both will reward you with a special item.

Whether you pass or submit, you’ll be put into a cell afterwards.

Escape the Cell

After the torture, you’ll be in a cell with the dead body of the DARPA Chief. There will also be a lone guard watching you outside of your cell. Funny enough, this guard is Johnny. We ran into him earlier in the game.

There are a few ways we can get out of this cell, but we’re gonna have Otacon help us.

Call 141.12 on the Codec and Snake will ask Otacon for help. He’ll be on his way after the call.

Now just wait. You can make noise to annoy Johnny, if you’re feeling bored.

Colonel Campbell will eventually call you. After that call, Johnny will run to the bathroom with stomach issues.

With Johnny gone, Otacon will show up. Run over to the door of the cell and a scene will play.

Otacon will give you a few items. Ketchup being one of them.

Lay done prone and equip the Ketchup. Press / / and you’ll spill the Ketchup under you. You have to do this before Johnny gets back.

Now lay still. Do not move.

When Johnny sees you, he’ll run into the cell. When he gets near you, stand up and quickly run out of the cell. Melee Johnny outside of the cell to knock him out. You have to get out of the cell quickly. Otherwise, Johnny will run back out and shut the door.

If you don’t make it out here, you can lay under the bed when Johnny runs to the bathroom again. You’ll get another chance. If you don’t make out after either method, the Cyborg Ninja will eventually come and let you out.

Once Johnny, is knocked out, equip the Lv. 6 Card and leave this room.

Go into the room where you were tortured and get your gear back. It is the big hard to miss box next to the torture machine.

Throw a Chaff Grenade and exit the room through the door on the top right.

Throw another Chaff Grenade and then get on the elevator and ride it down to B2. This area should look familiar.

Special Item: Camera

From the B2 elevator. Collect any ammo you may want or need from the storage rooms here. Then, go down to the bottom and enter the door that leads to where you fought Ocelot earlier on in the game.

Go through the hole in the wall you blasted earlier. Go to the right and put C4 on the wall. Blow it to reveal a hidden room.

Before entering that hole in the wall, throw a Chaff Grenade. When it explodes, run in and go up to the top right.

There are two doors in here. A Lv. 4 and Lv. 6. Enter the Lv. 4 door to find the Camera.

You’re going to want to be throwing Chaff Grenades regularly as there are a lot of gun cameras in here. Toss one before the active one wears off.

Pick up any other remaining ammo you’d like and then get back to the elevator.

Head to Comm Tower A

At the elevator, ride it up to Floor 1.

From here, you need to get back to where you were captured after you fought Sniper Wolf.

Cross the Snowfield. The mines are still out there, so avoid them or collect a few by crawling over them.

Enter the nuke storage building and head up to the elevator.

Ride the elevator to B2.

Go into the hallway filled with gas. Go down, left and then enter the first room on your right. This Lv. 6 room has the Body Armor in it.

Pick up the Body Armor and collect any other ammo here you may want or need.

Return to the elevator and ride it to B1.

Exit the elevator and go into the area where you found Meryl before fighting Psycho Mantis.

Go into the middle room on the left and pick up the Medicine.

Pick up the Medicine and collect any other ammo here you may want or need. If Snake sneezes, take the Medicine.

Go through the room where you fought Psycho Mantis and head through the cave with the wolves once again.

Get through the cave and you’ll be back where you fought Sniper Wolf.

Pick up any ammo you want in here and then head through the door on the right. It’s the same door where you were captured.

Comm Twr A

Follow the hallway and you’ll run into a room where a camera will spot you. This is a story-related event.

Pick up the Stun Grenades and Rope directly in front of you.

Now, all you have to do is run up the stairs. This is a very long run.

Equip your Rations and drop Stun Grenades as you run to take out multiple enemies at once. You can also use the Fa-mas to quickly take enemies out.

Enemies will be chasing you from behind and waiting ahead of you.

Once you reach the top, climb up the ladder.

Hind D Boss Fight

Exit the room at the top of the ladder and you’ll be outside on the roof.

Equip the Rope. Then, run over to the bridge with the satellite on the top left of the area.

The bridge will be destroyed just as you’re about to cross it.

This will force you to use the Rope to rappel down the side of the tower.

After the cutscene, you’ll be standing in front of the railing. Run forward just a step with the Rope equipped and you’ll automatically climb over and begin the rappel.

Press / / to jump off of while holding Down on the D-Pad to rappel down.

Time your jumps to avoid fire from the Hind and make sure to watch out for the steam shooting out of the pipes as that can damage you as well.

When you reach the bottom, do not go forward. Pick up the ammo on the right and left.

Then, go prone just to the left of the walkway so that you are behind the railing.

Once you’re in position, equip your PSG-1 and you’ll see three enemy soldiers waiting for you ahead.

Kill the three enemies. They will run to the left, but just wait. They’ll come back into view. They will not be able to hit you if you are laying behind the railing as pictured above.

When they’re dead, equip the Lv. 6 Card and run forward.

Be ready as the Hind will appear and begin shooting at you. Just keep running forward and then go left. Get inside of the door as quickly as you can.

Pick up the Stinger and ammo right in front of you immediately as you enter the room.

After that, enter the door at the bottom of this small area and you’ll be in another staircase.

As soon as you enter, go right. Head all the way down until you come to the destroyed section of the stairs.

Turn around and head back up to where you entered. This time, go down from the door and you’ll come to a cutscene.

After the scene, go over to the right and head up the stairs.

Equip your Chaff Grenades. There are going to be gun cameras up these stairs.

There will be 1 camera after the first flight of stairs. From there, there will be cameras after every third flight of stairs. So use your Chaff Grenades to make it by them all.

Collect the ammo and Ration at the top and then climb up the stairs.

Exit the small room and it’ll be time to face off against the Hind D.

During the fight, pop out and hit the Hind with a Stinger missile. Quickly take cover in between the buildings.

Keep your reticle on the helicopter and wait for it to come into view. The Stinger will target the Hind through walls, so keep it locked on in order to know where it is.

When it comes into view, fire a shot.

After you shoot it, it’s going to fire at you. Unequip the Stinger and run out of view to avoid being shot.

Repeat this until the next phase of the fight.

The second phase is not much different than the first. The difference here is that the Hind will dip down a bit. Keep your Stinger locked on him and wait for him to fly back up. Shoot him when he is in view.

There will be two times during the fight where he shoots a missile at you. Just stay between the two buildings and you’ll be safe from them.

There is a Ration and Stinger ammo nearby. If you need them, wait for the Hind to drop down before trying to get them.

After the fight, climb back down the ladder you used to come up here.

Elevator Fight

Go back down the stairs you used to reach the Hind fight. You can use the Stinger to take out the gun cameras or stick with Chaff Grenades.

Once you reach the elevator, interact with it. Get on it when the doors open and select Floor 1.

You’ll receive a call from Otacon warning you that other Stealth Camos have been stolen and that the enemies wearing them are on the elevator with you.

After the call, you’ll be in a fight against four invisible enemies. Use the Fa-mas or Stun Grandees to take them out.

When they’re all dead, the elevator will stop.

Exit the elevator and go left to collect the PSG-1 ammo.

Go back around to the opposite side of the elevator to find Chaff Grenades.

After you’ve collected all of the ammo, go through the door in the bottom right and throw a Chaff Grenade.

There are several gun cameras in the next two areas. Pick up the ammo in each room and continue through. Throw another Chaff Grenade before the first one wears off.

Pick everything up and exit through the door to the outside.

Sniper Wolf Boss Fight 2

Run out into the snowfield and Snake will be shot.

It’ll be time to fight Sniper Wolf once again.

As soon as the battle starts, equip the Stinger and it will reveal where Sniper Wolf is.

Quickly equip the PSG-1 and aim at Wolf.

This is a big area, so keep her in your sights as she moves from position to position. Shoot her as she takes aim at you.

Follow her back and forth shooting her as she steps out from behind cover.

If you have Diazepam, make sure to use it.

If you’re struggling here, it is possible to cheese this fight using the Nikita launcher.

Go over to the far right side and get behind the snowy hill and equip the Nikita.

Fire a missile and then go into first person view in the missile. Guide it over to where Wolf is and you can hit her with it. She won’t be able to hit you and you can just send missiles over at her.

When using them, you’ll need to shoot the missile up a gradual incline to reach her. It’ll explode if it hits a snow wall, but there is a gradual hill on the left you can use to get the missile up.

Guide it over the area marked below and the missile will rise up with the ground level. This is on the left side near Wolf in front of the parked truck.

After she’s defeated, there are some rooms in this field we can search through for some ammo as well as the Cardboard Box C.

All of the rooms line the outside of this area. Most of the rooms have cameras in them. So use your Chaff Grenades.

The room at the top right has Mines in it, so make sure to crawl through that one with the Thermal Goggles or Mine Detector equipped.

There is one other room up here that is a locked Lv. 7 door. We don’t have access to it now, but it has Stinger ammo inside. You can backtrack here and get the ammo if you’d like during the PAL Key section of the game.

You don’t really need to come here as there will be more Stinger ammo ahead.

The top room has PSG-1 ammo, Socom ammo and Fa-mas ammo.

The bottom room has Chaff Grenades and Grenades.

The bottom room has 2 Rations and the Cardboard Box C.

The top room has Nikita missiles in it.

When you’re ready to move on, the room up top on the left is the way to go. There will be two gun cameras in there.

Go down the stairs to continue the story.

Blast Furnace

Enter the Blast Furnace and go left. Lean up against the wall and slide over.

There will be a machine going back and forth where you are leaning. When it comes toward you, crouch and wait for it to pass over you.

Stand up after it passes and continue to the other side.

Slowly walk across the walkway. You don’t want to go too fast, otherwise the guard will hear your footsteps below and come investigate.

At the bottom, there is a doorway you can enter to find some ammo. Grab the Stun Grenades to the left of that doorway before entering.

Crawl through the opening on the left and there will be more ammo to find.

Throw a Chaff Grenade on the other side as there are two gun cameras waiting.

When you’re ready to go, exit through the big double doors at the bottom of the staircase you came down earlier.

Wait for the big platform elevator to rise up.

Get on it and interact with the console to ride it down. As it begins to ride down, you’ll be ambushed by three enemies.

You can use your Stun Grenades here or shoot them. A quicker way to deal with these enemies is to attack them with your melee attacks. If you do it while they’re close enough to the railing and they’ll be knocked over and fall down.

At the end of the elevator ride, throw a Chaff Grenade. There is a gun camera to your right.

Run right to the next area and there will be another big elevator to ride.

There are also Mines on this side, so use the Thermal Goggles to see them.

Ride the second elevator down.

It’ll be time for a boss fight against Vulcan Raven.

Raven Boss Fight

First off, the fight against Raven is very easy. He’s going to run around a big area. He won’t even be following you. He’ll just be randomly running up and down the hallways of the area.

If he sees you, he’ll shoot at you so just stay out his line of sight and you’ll be fine.

You can use a wide variety of weapons to deal with him.

There will be two phases to this fight.

Raven will be slow during the first. He’ll stop to shoot down hallways. When he stops, this is your opportunity to shoot him with a Nikita missile or Stinger missile from behind. Do not get too close or he’ll turn around and shoot you.

He will run much faster during the second phase of the fight. This will give you less time to line a shot from behind him.

Make use of Mines and C4 for the second phase. Place them and wait for him to run near them. If it’s C4, detonate it as he’s over it. If it’s a Mine, he’ll step on it and blow it up.

Exit the Warehouse via the big double doors at the top of the room.

Meet Metal Gear

Enter the next area and stick to the right or left wall. There are two trap doors in the floor up the middle. You can see them with the Thermal Goggles equipped.

Before going further into the room, stop after the Ration. throw a Chaff Grenade. There are many cameras in the next area.

If you go over to the right, there is a staircase that leads up to Stinger ammo. Grab that. We’re going to need it soon. Don’t forget to throw another Chaff Grenade to keep the cameras disabled.

Grab the Stinger ammo and then head back down the stairs. Enter the door on the left.

In the next room, Metal Gear will be standing ahead of you. Go over to the right and climb up the ladder.

At the top of the ladder, go to the right to pick up the Chaff Grenades and then lead left to climb another ladder.

Go across the top of Metal Gear and then climb down the ladder on the opposite side.

Follow the walkway to the left. When the walkway starts to head down toward the screen, use first person view to look ahead. There will be a guard patrolling.

If you get too close, he’ll hear your footsteps. So look ahead to see where he is at.

When he’s on the left side, head down and then go up the small stairs to the Command Room to initiate a cutscene.

Retrieve the PAL Key

As soon as the cutscene ends, you’ll be in alert mode. Deal with the enemy on the left and then go left.

Follow the walkway back to the ladder that leads up on top of Metal Gear.

When climb up, the alert mode will end.

Make your way back down to the very bottom in front of Metal Gear. This is near where you originally entered the room.

Once there, go over to the left and equip your Thermal Goggles and Stinger.

Stare straight ahead and you should see a vent.

Wait here until you see a rat running around near the vent. Once you see that, shoot it with the Stinger.

Once the rat is killed, it’ll drop the PAL Key. Run over and pick it up.

If the rat is showing up over here, you can go down into the contaminated water on the right side and find it there as well. However, standing in the water will drain your health.

Once you have the PAL Key back, climb back up to the control room where Liquid and Ocelot were speaking.

Don’t forget that there is a guard patrolling up top. He will be in the same place as the first time you came through earlier.

When going up the stairs to the Command Room, there will be three cameras. Throw a Chaff Grenade and then enter the Command Room.

Equip the PAL Key and stand in front of the laptop on the left in the center of the room. Do this quickly before the Chaff wears off.

With that, the first PAL Code will have been entered.

One down, two to go.

Freeze the Pal Key

Throw another Chaff Grenade and then exit the Command Room.

From here, you’re going to need to back track all the way to where you fought Raven.

There will be a guard ahead of you on the top floor of the room where Metal Gear is after leaving the control room.

Don’t forget about the trap doors and gun cameras just before the Warehouse where Raven was.

Once you’re there, all you have to do is wait.

You can run around the area picking up ammo or just lay there on the ground until the PAL Key changes.

Check the PAL Key every so often.

When it turns blue, you can leave. It doesn’t take too long.

With the PAL Key now frozen, head back up to the Command Room and walk to the middle laptop with the PAL Key equipped.

Heat the PAL Key

After inputting the frozen PAL Key, exit the Command Room and it’ll be time for some more backtracking.

This time, you’re going to need to heat the PAL Key. So backtrack all the way to the Blast Furnace.

There will be guards in the Warehouse where you fought Raven this time.

Get through the Warehouse and ride up the two cargo elevators.

Enter the Blast Furnace and go into the room where the steam is shooting out. You can lay in here and avoid enemies while waiting for the PAL Key to heat up.

Check the PAL Key every so often.

When it turns red, you can leave.

Head straight for the Command Room and interact with the laptop on the right.

Afterwards, you’ll be trapped in the Command Room and it will fill with gas.

Equip the Gas Mask and then call Otacon. He will disable to locks and let you out shortly after calling him.

Metal Gear Rex Boss Fight

To start, throw a Chaff Grenade. Then, pull out the Stinger and target the ray dome on the the side.

Immediately run away and drop another Chaff Grenade. Rex will shoot three missiles at you. They are basically impossible to outrun without Chaff.

When a Chaff Grenade is active, the missiles will be shot at where you were standing the last time you inflicted damage to Rex.

So, throw a Chaff Grenade, shoot him with the Stinger, run away, throw a Chaff Grenade, shoot him with the Stinger, run away. Repeat those steps until the health bar is depleted.

There are Chaff Grenades on the right side near where you start the fight.

For the second phase, you’re going to be shooting at the mouth where Liquid is sitting.

The best way to take on this phase is to throw a Stun Grenade as soon as the battle starts and run directly at him.

Avoid the laser attack and watch out for his stomp. The stomp attack is one hit kill, but he will only do it if you’re out in front of him.

You want to stay behind him but between the legs. Use the Stinger to shoot the under side of the cockpit. It doesn’t have to be locked on the do damage.

When you shoot him, he’ll know where you are, so just keep running toward the back of him. If he backs up, run toward him. Stay between the legs to the back.

He’ll eventually lose sight and give you another opportunity to hit him with the Stinger.

Repeat that until Rex is destroyed.

Liquid Boss Fight

Now, you’ll be fist fighting Liquid on top of Rex. You only be allowed to use your melee attacks. There is also a timer in this fight, so you have to be quick.

The hitboxes in this fight are tough. You need to really get away from Liquid when he attacks, other wise he’ll hit you and do a lot of damage.

From the start, run up to him and get a punch, punch, kick attack on him.

You’ll be able to squeeze in 2 or 3 of these before he starts going on the offensive.

There are a few things to look out for here.

If you fall over the edge, quickly tap Up on the D-Pad to pull yourself back up.

When Liquid puts his hands up, he’s about to attack. Get in close and then back away. He’ll do a punch combo or kick. If you attack him while his hands are up, he’ll duck and counter attack.

Get in close, back out and then attack him after he misses his attack.

As you do more damage, he’ll become more aggressive. He’ll put his hands up and circle you. When he does this, move in and hit him with a single punch and then back away.

After your punch, he’ll immediately throw a two punch combo or a kick. Back away so that he misses. He’ll be vulnerable after he misses.

His other attack will be a charge. He’ll put his head down and run toward you. The hitbox for this is very cheap. Do your best to get out of his path.

You won’t be able to interrupt his combos with your attacks, but you can stop him by throwing him.

If you run up to him and press Left or Right on the D-Pad while pressing / / , you’ll actually roll him over. This won’t do damage, but it will interrupt his attacks, including the charge if you can get to him before he runs. When he bends down, you can roll him. You won’t have a lot of time to do it, but it is possible if you’re close enough.

When he’s about to run out of health, you need to land a punch, punch, kick combo on him near the edge so that he is kicked off of Metal Gear Rex.

If you don’t kick him off of Rex, he will regain a little bit of health. The final hit needs to be a kick and he needs to go over the edge.

Escape

Depending on your decision with Ocelot’s torture, you’ll either be with Meryl or Otacon here.

Meryl if you passed the torture or Otacon if you submitted.

Before following your partner, go through the doorway behind you to pick up a Ration.

Follow your partner and pick up the Ration next to the stairs.

Go up the stairs and get next to the jeep on the left. There will be enemies running toward you. You can melee them while Otacon/Meryl starts the jeep.

There is another Ration at the bottom left of the area near the jeep your partner starts.

When he starts it, run up to it and Snake will get in.

Shoot the barrels with the mounted weapon to blow a hole in the gate.

In the tunnel you’ll come to two checkpoints.

Kill the enemies at each one in order to progress.

The mounted weapon is actually easier to use in first person. Hold / / to enter first person.

After the second checkpoint, Liquid will once again appear.

All you have to do here is keep your fire on Liquid until the end.

Post Game

During the final cutscene, you’ll be given either the Bandanna or Stealth.

After the credits, you’ll be given your score for the game as well.

After your score, you’ll be asked to save your game. Save your game.

When you load up that completed save, you’ll be at the beginning of the game with the special items you received during your last playthrough.
