Welcome to our Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker S Rank Guide
Don’t worry about getting the S ranks your first time through. It’s possible for some, but they will become easier to do later on after you’ve unlocked better weapons and gear. Work your way through the game and accumulate the best weapons and gear. When you’ve unlocked enough or leveled your gear up enough, then start going for S ranks. This guide is based on you having unlocked just about all of the weapons and gear.

Main Ops
- Opening / Investigate the Supply Facility
This one is quick and easy. Tranq the first enemy you come across. Run past him and head north to the exit of the area. In Puerto del Alba, head over to the far left side. Tranq the enemy at the end of the aisle and then tranq the enemy up on the deck of the building. With them dealt with, run to the goal. If you’re fast enough, you can just run by and not worry about being seen. Make sure to hit the correct QTEs for the Cutscene Interaction Bonus.
- Contact the Sandinista Comandante
For this mission, you can simply tranq everyone in your way and head for the goal. Just be quick and don’t miss shots. Make sure to hit the correct QTEs for the Cutscene Interaction Bonus.
- Pursue Amanda
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
When this mission starts, enemies will be running into the area. Go to the right under the structure. Tranq the guard that goes furthest right and then run past where he was and go behind the tower ahead and straight to the exit. In the swamp, just stick to the left path and run through the area. You can leave the enemy alone. In the third area, tranq the guard and run up the path he was walking toward. Tranq the guard on the bridge and keep going. In the fourth area, stick to the left and run by the first guard. There will be two more guards ahead of you, tranq them both. For the fifth area, just stick the left pretty much the whole way through. Tranq the two guards in the warehouse and go through the open doorway. As you come out, there might be another guard ahead of you. Tranq him if he’s there and then enter the goal.
- Armored Vehicle Battle: LAV-Type G
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
- Fulton Recovery
When the mission starts, you want to run along the left side toward the sign that is furthest away. If you time it right, you’ll get to that sign just as the vehicle stops. Get behind the sign and wait. Throw a sleep grenade at the two closest guards. When they’re out, get behind the vehicle and throw another sleep grenade at the other two guards. When all four are out, fulton them. The vehicle will start to drive forward. Keep some distance but make sure you’re close enough to the throw a sleep grenade at the back doors. Eventually, the vehicle will stop and let more enemies out. Let the first couple jump out and then throw the sleep grenade at them. When they’re out, fulton them. The vehicle driver will then come out. Use the MK. 22 to shoot his helmet off and then keep shooting him in the head to finish him off.
- Rescue Chico
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
This is another quick mission to run through. The two things to know about this mission are that there is a sniper up on the ledge of the second area on the left near the exit. In the third area, go through the left hallway. Tranq any guards in your way. You should only encounter 3 of them going through the left hallway. You need to press the action button on the blue door at the back of the area down the middle to find Chico and end the mission. The door is past the third enemy.
- Pursue the Jungle Train
- Sneaking Suit
- Fulton Recovery
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
For the first area, go down the middle to the exit. Tranq the two enemies in your path. When you enter the area with the train, there is sniper covering the exit. Instead of going around the train, you can simply climb over the train and go straight to the exit. There is a flat bed on that train that can climb over. So climb over it and exit the area. You’ll bypass all of the enemies including the sniper. For the next area, just tranq the enemies in your way. There will be two up on higher walkways that you’ll need to take care of. There are also two enemies on the second floor platform that you need to climb up to in the warehouse. When you’re facing the group of enemies in the trainyard, you can use sleep grenades to get multiple enemies put to sleep. When they are all sleeping, fulton them out to end the mission.
- Tank Battle: T-72U
- Sneaking Suit
- Fulton Recovery
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
There will be four soldiers walking along side the tank. Two on each side. You’ll need to tranq them and fulton them. When they’re gone, more enemies will spawn in and run toward the tank to take up the positions where the previous enemies were. Take them out the same way as the others. There will be one more wave of on foot enemies that you’ll have to deal with for a total of 10. When they’re fultoned, the vehicle driver will then come out. Use the MK. 22 to shoot his helmet off and then keep shooting him in the head to finish him off. It will not count as a kill if the tank runs over any of the sleeping soldiers.
- Destroy the Barricade
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Fulton Recovery
All you have to do is here is backtrack to the village where you found Chico in the Rescue Chico mission. Tranq anyone in your way. When you go through the fence, Miller will tell you to go west. Take the right exit to skip the area with the train and sniper. They’re down the left path. When you reach the village, the enemies there will all be wearing helmets. So they’ll take two headshots to put down. Tranq the enemies in the area and plant the C4 on the wall blocking the goal. The wall will be highlighted on your map. If the enemies are not sleeping, they’ll hear the explosion of the C4. This will start a caution phase, so quickly head through. You want to get through this mission as fast as you can.
- Infiltrate the Crater Base
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
For this, you just need to get through it as fast as you can. Tranq any enemies in your way and keep moving. The first enemy on the bridge will see you when you come up the stairs on the other side so tranq him and then run past the two enemies below. If you’re fast enough, you can get by them and up the stairs before they turn around. There will be three enemies up the ladder in the final area. Shoot the two that are visible when you enter the area and they should fall asleep by the time you reach the ladder. Try not to hit them in the head. Otherwise the helmet will come off, it will take more shots, and they’ll likely duck down to radio for help before you can hit them again. The third enemy will be behind the front two. He shouldn’t see you after climbing the ladder. Tranq him so that he doesn’t see you enter the hangar. The license plate you need is 64779.
- Pupa Battle
The key here is speed. You need to win as fast as you can. The M47 makes this fight incredibly easy. If you don’t have that, the LAW is also a good choice.
- Travel to Cloud Forest
- Sneaking Suit
The enemies in this mission will be hiding behind tree trunks and waiting for you near corners. Hop the ledge next to you at the start. Tranq the enemy crouch behind the tree and continue on. Climb up onto the next ledge to your right after the straight path. Continue forward to the second area. From the start roll off the ledge. Don’t go down the path the leads left. Get to the right side of the area and just run straight back to the goal. This mission can be over in little over a minute once you know where everyone is.
- Attack Chopper Battle: Mi-24A
- Battle Dress With Helmet
- Sniper Rifle
- Non-lethal Sniper Rifle
- Sleep Grenades
At the beginning of the fight, throw a sleep grenade over at the group of 4 enemies on foot to knock them all out. When that’s done, start using your sniper rifle to shoot the cockpit of the helicopter. Aim for the glass windows. When you’ve damaged the glass enough, the pilot will stick his head out. Use your non-lethal sniper rifle to knock him out and complete the fight. Unlike the other vehicles, you do not need to fulton all of the on foor enemies away. Leave them knocked out. If you fulton them, the helicopter will just keep dropping more of them off.
- Head for the Lab
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- NVG
Most of the enemies in this mission will be hidden. Wear your NVGs through each section to see where the enemies are laying. There are also some waiting behind trees and corners. Most of these can just be left alone if you run along the right sides of the areas. In the final area, there will be enemies in your way, so just tranq them and run through.
- Locate the ID Card
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- NVG
You’ll need to backtrack through the previous mission looking for an enemy wearing orange. The enemy’s location is randomized. When you find him, tranq him and search him to get the ID Card. Once you have it, return to where this mission started and head for the goal. There will be enemies hiding throughout the areas. Use your NVGs to see them. There is a QTE at the end of the mission that you need to get right 100%. It’ll be L1, L1, R1, R1, L1, R1, Right, Triangle, Left, R1.
- Chrysalis Battle
- Battle Dress With Helmet
- M47
- Chaff Grenade
With the M47, you can beat the Chrysalis in three shots. If hit correctly. If you have the Bandana, ammo wont matter. If it flies away, use a Chaff Grenade and it’ll be temporarily stopped in place.
- Travel to the Mine Base
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
All you have to do here is avoid the guards and get through the one area. Tranq anyone in the way and head for the exit.
- Eliminate the Guards
- Carl Gustav M2 (Fulton Recovery)
- Any Rocket Launcher
- Bandana
24 enemies are going to spawn and you need to take them out. Using the Fulton Recovery C. Gustav can make this mission very easy. You can stay where you start and shoot enemies with it to deal with them. You will occasionally need to destroy the drones that come toward you. For those, switch over to any rocket launcher you have.
- Cocoon Battle
- M47
- Another Rocket Launcher or the Bandana
The M47 can wipe this boss out in just a few hits. Aim for the AI Pod. When its health is depleted, use the ladders on the side of it and climb up to the AI Pod to enter it and finish the mission. You just need to be quick here.
- Infiltrate the Underground Base
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
At the start of the mission, throw a sleep grenade at the group of enemies down to your right. Roll off of the catwalk and down to the lower level. Run to the elevator near the group of enemies. From here, you just need to quickly get through each area until you reach the goal. Us the Mk. 22 to tranq anyone in your way. There will be an enemy with a shield blocking the goal. You can toss a sleep grenade at him to deal with him. After the mission, you will need to successfully complete the cutscene QTEs in order to get the S for the mission. The QTE order is, Right – R1 – Right – R1 – Right – Triangle – R1 – left – Triangle – R1 – R1 – Right – R1 – Triangle.
- Torture Chamber Escape
All you have to do here is repeteadly mash Triangle during the QTEs. There are three scenes where you need to tap Triangle. Successfully complete each one.
- Head for Peace Walker’s Hangar
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
There are four enemies in the first room. One is up top on a catwalk and the other is on the left side of the room. Tranq them both and then use a sleep grenade on the two guards near each other by the elevator. The guard on the left will eventually make his way over to the elevator, so you need to knock him out. In the next area, go up the stairs on the left. There are only two guards up there. You can get them both with a sleep grenade. In the next area, there will be two guards with shields. Use sleep grenades on them. The goal will be below the second shield enemy. There are three enemies down there blocking the way. Another sleep grenade will take them all out. Roll over the railing and head for the goal.
- Peace Walker Battle
- Battle Dress With Helmet
- M47
- Bandana or second missile launcher
Get behind Peace Walker and target the AI Pod with the M47. It should only take three direct hits to kill it. Bring the Bandana or a second missile launcher just in case you miss a shot. After the fight, you’ll need to pass the QTEs during the chase to finish the mission off. I was able to get 8/10 on the cutscene interaction and still get an S.
- Infiltrate the U.S. Missile Base
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Chaff Grenades
At the start of the mission, tranq the guard around the first corner. There will be an enemy on the walkway above, but you can get under that walkway and leave him alone. Drop into the lower area and hide around the first corner. Wait for the drone to come down and then leave. When it rises back up, continue on quickly. Tranq the next two enemies and head for the elevator. In the second area, there are three guards and a drone. Tranq the two in your way. You can leave the third over in the back corner alone. Climb up the stairs when the drone is clear. Stay crouched and get into the next hallway. The final area has three guards and a drone. Tranq the three guards before you drop down. When the enemies are knocked out, throw a chaff grenade. Drop down when it explodes and make your way over to the next ladder. Throw another chaff grenade before the first one runs out. You need to throw it before climbing the second ladder. Climb the ladder and enter the hallway to exit the level.
- Head to the Control Tower
- Battle Dress
- Twin Barrel (R)
- Twin Barrel
- Rations
This mission is tricky. You’re going to be running through several areas while being shot at by enemies. You’ll be in an alert mode, but this won’t count against your score like a normal mission. You just want to keep moving. Use the lethal Twin Barrel on the drones and the Twin Barrel R on the soldiers. One shot from the Twin Barrel R will be enough to knock an enemy out. It also has really good distance, so you can shoot enemies from further away with it. Keep moving and take the enemies out that are in your way. Don’t linger in one spot for too long. When you reach the final area, there will be soldiers and a helicopter. Stay inside and take the soldiers out as they come to you. You can peek out and take ones outside out when you have a chance. You can use the mounted machine gun or a rocket launcher, if you brought one, to take the helicopter out. That will not count as a kill.
- Peace Walker Battle 2
- Battle Dress With Helmet
- M47
- Another Launcher
- The Bandana or Supply Markers
Once again, you just need to be quick. Focus your attacks on the AI Pod when it is visible. Just keep attacking it and stay on the run to avoid it attacks. If you don’t have the bandana, you’ll need to use supply markers.
- Peace Walker Battle 3
There is no rank for this mission.
- Zadornov Search Mission / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- NVG
You will need to find Zadornov and fulton him. His location is random. So, do a practice run to find out where he is. Restart your mission once you know and then head straight for him and complete the mission as quickly as you can. You cannot be spotted by any enemies. If you choose, “Restart Mission,” his location will stay the same. If you select, “Return to Mission Selection Menu,” his location will change. Some of the missions will be at night and there will be enemies hidden waiting for you around trees and corners. That’s where you’ll want to use the NVGs.
In the 4th mission, he is behind the blue doors in Aldea Los Despiertos. There are multiple doors, so you’ll need to search them until you find him. Walk up to a blue door and press the Action button. They will also be labeled on your map.
- ZEKE Battle
-
- Battle Dress With Helmet
- M47
- Bandana
Before starting this mission, remove any custom parts from Zeke as well as all optional parts except for the Railgun. This can makes the battle a little easier for you. The Bandana and M47 will make short work of this mission.
Extra Ops
- Extra Ops 001 / 002 – Target Practice: No Limit
You cannot get ranks on these missions, but you do need to do them in order to complete them.
- Extra Ops 003 – Score Attack
- Assault Rifle
Take any assault rifle and aim for the head on the targets. Headshots will give 500 points. Aim for the body on the targets that are way in the back.
- Extra Ops 004 – Time Attack
For this, you just need to run through the course shooting the targets that pop up. Make sure to aim for the head. Do not move on to the next area until Kaz tells you that all the targets are down in your area. I was able to get an S rank with a score of 10,100 and a clear time of 1:30.
- Extra Ops 005 – Marksmanship Challenge
Run through the level and shoot all 12 of the targets with headshots. Headshots will add the most to your score and time. There’s enough time to run up to them somewhat close to make sure you’re getting a head shot. I got an S with a time of 00:51 and score of 5600.
- Extra Ops 006 – Marksmanship Challenge
Stay on the roof and hit all of the targets in the head. A sniper rifle is a little too slow here. I used an assault rifle firing a single shot at a time.
- Extra Ops 007 – Marksmanship Challenge
You’ll need to run through the course shooting the targets in the head. You can miss one target if you’re fast enough. The targets in this mission will be moving, but they’ll come to a stop before moving back. So shoot them when they stop before they can move again.
- Extra Ops 008 – Marksmanship Challenge
Once again, you’ll be running through the mission shooting targets. You will need to shoot every one of them in the head. The targets move, but not as much as in 007.
- Extra Ops 009 – Marksmanship Challenge
For this mission, you can only miss 1 headshot. There is a target that pops up in the distance. You can bring a sniper rifle for that one. For the ones that move, aim your reticle where they stop and just wait for it the target to move back and stop. If you lined your shot up right, you should be able to hit it when it stops for a moment.
- Extra Ops 010 – Fulton Recovery
The target is in the top left corner of the map. When the mission starts, run over to the left side of the map and tranq the guard in front of the target. Run straight to the target and fulton him. Then, get to the goal nearby. You can’t be seen, kill anyone or take too long.
- Extra Ops 011 – Fulton Recovery
For this mission, you need to fulton out all four enemies. You tranq three of the four from where you start. Knock them out and fulton them as quickly as you can.
- Extra Ops 012 – Fulton Recovery
The fulton target is in the back right corner of the map behind the truck. Go along the right side of the map to reach the target quickly. Tranq anyone in your way. If you take the right side, you should only run into one enemy.
- Extra Ops 013 – Fulton Recovery
The target is in the open room behind the gate in the back of the area. Run through the warehouse to get around the gate. You only need to tranq two enemies to get to the target. One in the warehouse and one behind the gate.
- Extra Ops 014 – Fulton Recovery
You’ll need to make your way through a few areas to reach the target. Tranq anyone in your way. The target will be on top of the ladder in the third area behind the box in front of you when you climb up. There are also two claymore mines around the target. You can just carefully walk behind the mines to extract the target.
- Extra Op 015 – Fulton Recovery
From the start, knockout everyone on the map and then fulton the soldier holding a banana in his hands. He has his back to you, while every other enemy is aiming into the center of the map.
- Extra Op 016 – Fulton Recovery
The target is found on the first floor of the warehouse in the final area. Tranq the enemies in your way as you head to the target. Be as quick as you can. The extraction goal is outside of the warehouse on the backside. You will need to climb the ladder in the warehouse and go down the stairs outside to reach it. There is an enemy on the second floor, so watch out for him.
- Extra Op 017 – Fulton Recovery
All you need to do here is fulton all of the enemies. There are 11 in total. Wear the NVGs to help see them. There are two enemies in the first area, three enemies in the second area, two enemies in the third area and four enemies in the last area.
- Extra Op 018 – Target Detonation
You need to blow up the target box in the area. Knock out the guards before blowing up the box. They’re going to hear the explosion. Also, make sure there are no enemies knocked out too close to the box. Otherwise, they’ll be killed by the explosion.
- Extra Op 019 – Target Detonation
Tranq the enemies before blowing the box. There is an enemy near the box, so fulton him out before blowing it up. Be as quick as you can.
- Extra Op 020 – Target Detonation
- Mk. 22
- C4
- Chaff Grenades
Tranq the two guards at the start of the mission. Before dropping down the ladder, shoot the guard in the distance. He is standing by the goal. Drop down, tranq the guard at the end of the passageway and throw a chaff grenade. When the drone is chaffed, run to the target box. If the enemy in front of the box hasn’t fallen asleep yet, knock him out, fulton him and then blow up the box.
- Extra Op 021 – Cargo Truck Demolition
- Battle Dress with Helmet
- Three Rocket Launchers or one and the Bandana
For this mission, you need to destroy the trucks that drive by before they can make it to the other side. Wear the Battle Dress with Helmet and bring three rocket launchers. Reload your rocket launchers before the next wave of trucks so that you’re ready to go. You can get multiple trucks with a single rocket if they are close enough together.
- Extra Op 022 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
All you need to do here is run through and quickly tranq everyone. There are 6 guards in the first area and 4 in the final area. You don’t need to fulton them out. Once they are asleep, they are counted as “eliminated”?
- Extra Op 023 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Twin Barrel R
- Mk. 22 or Mosin Nagant
If you have the Twin Barrel R unlocked, you can just run through one shotting the enemies in your way. There are 5 enemies in each section. There are 2 enemies far out on a bridge in the distance of the first area, so you can use a different weapon to reach them, if you’d like. However, the Twin Barrel can actually reach them. The enemies will be on the attack, but this does not count as an alert.
- Extra Op 024 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Twin Barrel R
- Carl Gustav M2 (Fulton Recovery) – If you have it.
You’ll need to knock out three waves of enemies during this mission. The first wave will spawn in front of you. The second wave will spawn from the backside at the big door to the hangar. The third wave will spawn where the first one did. The Twin Barrel R can take them in one shot. If you have the Fulton Gustav, that can make this mission a breeze. The end goal will be where you spawned in to start the mission.
- Extra Op 025 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Twin Barrel R or Mk. 22
There will be eight enemies to knock out here. Two in each area. Run through tranqing everyone as fast as you can. The enemies will run toward you and change position, so if you don’t see them right away, they’ll show them selves when aiming at you or moving.
- Extra Op 026 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Battle Dress
- Twin Barrel R
- Mk. 22
- Stun Grenades
There will be a lot of enemies that you need to take out here. Just run through the area knocking them out as fast as you can. They will continuously spawn in the lower level next to the POW and up by where the goal is in the back of the area. The Twin Barrel R will be very helpful here. You can also use stun grenades to get a few enemies from far away.
- Extra Op 027 – Eliminate the Enemy Soldiers
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
For this mission, you just need to knock out five enemies and they aren’t alerted to you. You can take out three of the five right from where you start. The fourth is to your right on the other side of a big box. THe fifth is up on the catwalk on the left side and the goal will be in the center of the area.
- Extra Op 028 – Item Capture
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- C4
Knock out the four guards in the area and then fulton the one closest to the truck. Plant the C4 on the target box and then blow it. If you don’t fulton the guard near the truck, the explosion will kill him. Pick up the items from the box and then head for the goal. It will be where the mission started.
- Extra Op 029 – Item Capture
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- C4
There are only three enemies in this area. Tranq all three of them and fulton the two next to the crate. Blow the crate open and pick up all of the items. Head for the goal nearby.
- Extra Op 030 – Classified Document Retrieval
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
You’ll need to find five documents throughout the mission. One is just outside of the warehouse to the right, another is under the warehouse roof in-between the waist high walls, the third is outside of the warehouse near an open room by the locked gate. The last two are on the other side of the locked gate. The extract goal will be near the last two as well. You can just tranq all of the enemies to deal with them.
- Extra Op 031 – Classified Document Retrieval
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
There are five documents to find here. Tranq the guards, grab the documents and head for the goal as quickly as you can. There is a document in the bid red building down the path from where you start. The second document is in the middle building. A guard will be in front of it. The third document is in a building diagonally across from the second document. The fourth document is next to the ladder on the backside of the building that had the second document in it. The fifth document is on the roof of the red building that had the first document. Climb up the ladder next to #4 and then roll over to the roof.
- Extra Op 032 – Classified Document Retrieval
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
There are six documents to collect here. They will be spread out across multiple areas. There one in the first area, one in the second area, three in the third area and one in the fourth area. The first one will be behind a tree on the right side of the area near the second enemy. The second document will be on the left side of the train next to the closed off exit. The third document will be straight ahead of you after going through the hole in the fence. The fourth document will be shortly after the third, on your right in a path of tall grass right where the cement area turns to a dirt path. Its right where the concrete wall on your right turns and then ends. The fifth document will be down a short cutout on the left side of the buildings just before entering the open door. The sixth document will be on the first floor of the mill in the chainlink fenced area. Climb the ladder and exit through the back and down the stairs to reach the goal.
- Extra Op 033 / 034 – Claymore Disarmament
- NVG
For these missions, you need to disarm every claymore in the area. In order to do so, you need to get behind a claymore and crouch. Then, press the action button to pick them up. Wear your NVGs to see them easier. You just need to be fast here.
- Extra Op 035 – Hold Up
- Sneaking Suit
All you have to do here is run through the mission holding enemies up. Make sure you’re wearing the sneaking suit to quiet your footsteps. There are three enemies in the first area and 4 in the last. In the last area, start with the guard furthest right and work your way left ending with the guard on the deck of the building.
- Extra Op 036 – Hold Up
- Sneaking Suit
The angles in the mission are going to be a little tougher at the start. Start with the furthest enemy outside of the warehouse. There is a guard that is staring at him about in the middle of the area, so wait for his head to turn. You can get them both once he turns his head and that will open the mission up from there. Approach everyone from behind. The two in the middle outside are the problem. Once they’re gone, you can take care of the rest no problem. If a guard sees you, you can CQC them down if you are close enough. After throwing them down, you can then hold them up. You need to be fast and close to pull that off. Even though the alert sound plays, you can quickly cancel it out with CQC. The window for that is small, but you can use it as an advantage instead of having to waste time on waiting for a guard to walk closer to you around a corner or something.
- Extra Op 037 – Hold Up
- Sneaking Suit
There are five enemies on the bottom floor and 4 enemies on the top floor. They’ll be on alert, so they’ll be turning around a little faster. From where you start, head straight, get the first guard ahead and then get the next on the left. Roll over the barricade in the middle and get the guard on the right. Enter the room in the middle and get the guard in there. When you exit that middle room, look left to see another guard you can get. With that done, head up stairs. If you enter the stairs near the last guard I mentioned, there will be three guards to the left up top and one to the right. Get the one on the right first and then make your way through the last three.
- Extra Op 038 – Base Defense
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
You’re going to need to stop the enemies from getting by you and into the exit. You cannot let a single get by you. Use the Mk. 22 and Stun Rod if you don’t have the Twin Barrel R. The Twin Barrel R and Bandana will make this mission very easy. Just stand at the top of the stairs and shoot everyone that comes up. There is only one way to the exit and only one way the enemies will go for
- Extra Op 039 – Base Defense
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
- Fulton Mines If you have them
There will be three goals that you need to guard. They will be next to each other. Enemies will spawn in groups of two from two different locations. They’ll be in front of you and behind you. They will alternate spawns after a wave is knocked out. If you have the Twin Barrel R, this mission is incredibly easy. You can even shoot the enemies through the locked gate before they can enter the area you’re in. Just stay near the three goals. You can defend both waves from there. If you feel like you need a layer of back up, you can place fulton mines down around the goals, but you shouldn’t need them. Just keep looking at both enemy spawns and you’ll have enough time to stop them.
- Extra Op 040 – Base Defense
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
There will only be one goal to defend here and 15 enemies. The enemies will be wearing armor, so they’ll be a little tougher to take down, but it should not be a problem. Use the Twin Barrel R to quickly mop up this mission. If you don’t have that, you’ll have to rely on your other non-lethal weapons and stun rod.
- Extra Op 041 – Base Defense
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
There are three zones to defend here, but the enemies will only come from two sides. They will alternate from their first spawn and then one from where you spawned. The enemies that come from where you spawned will walk down the back path on the raised area. There is only one goal up there. The other two are nearby but not on the raised platform. Keep alternating between spawns. They don’t have far to go, so you need to be alert. At around 10 remaining, the timing will be a little messed up where both sides will spawn a little quicker sending out enemies one at a time.
- Extra Op 042 – POW Defense
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
For this mission, you’ll need to defend a POW. It’ll work the same way as the base defense missions, except the enemies will be trying to kill the POW. Enemies on this mission will be spawn from left and right. Make sure you are checking both sides and knockout the enemies as quickly as you can.
- Extra Op 043 – Defend Key Supplies
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
For this mission, you will be defending boxes of supplies from rushing enemies. They’ll come from the front door and the door up on the second level. They’ll shoot down from the ladder. So make sure you are checking both sides for enemies. Knock them out as quickly as you can.
- Extra Op 044 – Defend Key Supplies
- Twin Barrel R if you have it
- Mk. 22
- Bandana if you have it
This mission will have you defending three boxes of supplies. Stay on the lower level near the middle box. The enemies will come from both left and right. For the most part, they’ll come straight at you. Although some will go up to the second floor every now and then. You can shoot them through the grating underneath them if they do get above you.
- Extra Op 045 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
Hold up or tranq the first enemy in front of you and then run up the middle and to the left to exit the area. In the next area, go to the left side wait for the enemy at the end to turn around. Go when he does. Hold him up or tranq him and then head for the goal.
- Extra Op 046 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
All there is to this one is to be fast and tranq any enemies in your way. There are a lot of areas to get through here, but the enemies are pretty straight forward. Just knock them out and keep going, but be fast. There is a sniper up on the ridge to the left of the train in the second area. Make sure you also take the exit left of the train. Otherwise, you’ll be taken to dead end areas and it will kill your time.
- Extra Op 047 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- NVG
This is another mission with multiple areas. The enemies will also be hiding throughout the areas. They’ll be in the same places they were during the main ops. Bring your NVGs to see them easily. The sneaking suit makes this mission very easy. You can just run past the majority of the enemies here. Tranq the ones you need to and keep moving.
- Extra Op 048 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Chaff Grenades
Tranq or hold up the first guard and run straight ahead to under the guard on the second floor. You can leave him alone. Drop into the corridor guarded by the drone and take cover behind the corner. Wait for it to check the area. As soon as it passes by the corner your hiding behind, go out and straight back. Tranq the guard up on the second floor and then climb the ladder. Tranq or hold up the guard by the elevator and then exit. In the next area, go right. Tranq the guard walking toward you. You can tranq the second guard if you want, or just run by him when his back is turned. Go up the stairs and stay crouched so that the drone does not see you. Exit this area. For the final area, make your way around and tranq the guard coming toward you. Tranq the two guards on the other side. When they’re down, throw a chaff grenade. When the drone is chaffed, drop down and head to the next ladder. Throw a second chaff grenade before climbing up to ensure that the drone will not see you. Climb up and head for the exit.
- Extra Op 049 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
This mission is pretty linear. Just tranq the enemies in your way. There are a lot of enemies and they’re all moving around. There’s nothing here overly difficult. Just be quick with your shots and get to the goal quickly.
- Extra Op 050 – Perfect Stealth
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- Sleep Grenades
In the first area, hold up the two guards walking next to each other and take the exit to their immediate right.
In the second area, go along the far left path. Tranq the guard ahead of you and run straight for the exit. As long as you keep moving, the other enemies will not see you.
In the third area, stick to the left path. Leave the two enemies in the swamp alone. Hold up the guard that walks into your path and keep going.
In the fourth area, tranq the one guard ahead of you. This can be a little tricky as he will be right in front of you, but covered up by a log. He also has a helmet on, so be careful here. On the bridge, there will be two guards. Tranq the one on the right first and then hold up the one on the left if he has his back to you.
In the fifth area, hold up the guard walking with his back to you and then tranq the guard walking toward you. There is one more guard further ahead. He should have turned his back to you, but be careful on the timing. Hold him up when he’s not facing you and exit the area.
In the sixth area, you can tranq everyone as long as you do it quickly. There will be two guards that come out together inside of the warehouse that will block your path to the area with the exit. Throw a sleep grenade at them to knock them out and head for the goal.
- Extra Op 051 – Obstacle Destruction
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
- C4
This mission will have the enemies laying and hiding waiting to ambush you again. They’ll be in the same places they were in previous ops. At the start, climb the ledge to the left and then tranq the guard in the middle behind the tree.
In the second area, get over to the right side and run along the right wall all the way to the end. You’ll avoid every enemy here. You’ll need the left side exit, so just head left when you reach the end of the right side. There will be a guard nearby, but he won’t notice you with the sneaking suit on.
Blow up the rubble with C4 and head to the goal.
- Extra Op 052 – Eliminate the Kidnappers
All you need to do here is get on one of the mounted guns and shoot down the drones as they appear.
- Extra Op 053 – Clearing Escape
- Sneaking Suit
- Mk. 22
Ignore the two enemies in front of you and climb up the ledge on the left. Tranq the two guards further ahead and run past them to the goal.
- Extra Op 054 – Snake Gear Retrieval
- Mk. 22
For this mission, you will need to collect five pieces of equipment. From where you start, tranq all of the enemies in the area. You can reach them from your spawn point. When they’re taken care of, go behind you and follow the hallway to the back to find the first item. Return to where you started and grab the item a little further on the catwalk. After getting the first two, roll over the railing on your right and head for the elevator. Call the elevator and then go to your left. You can run in front of the Metal Gear, climb over the boxes and then there will be a ladder next to you. Climb up the ladder and grab the third item at the top. From there, drop down and head over to the opposite side of the room and climb the other ladder up and roll onto the metal gear to grab the fourth item. Roll off of the metal gear and grab the fifth item under the catwalk where you spawned. From there, head to the elevator to pick up the final item inside of it. Turn around and hit the goal. You’re basically going to sweep through this area counterclockwise.
- Extra Op 055 – U.S. Soldier Rescue
- Carl Gustav Fulton Recovery – Highly Recommended
With the Gustav Fulton, have it equipped in your first weapon slot. As soon as the mission starts, head left a bit and then shoot a Fulton rocket into the room with the POW before the door closes. Then, head for the goal to your right. THe guard will enter caution mode, but that won’t cancel out your S, as long as it doesn’t enter alert mode.
If you don’t have the Gustav Fulton, use the Mk. 22. Tranq the four enemies on the ground level and head for the door. Disarm the mine on the left and then interact with the door to open it. You need to really tap the action button to open this door. Otherwise, you’ll be thrown backwards. Go inside, fulton the POW and then head for the goal.
- Extra Op 056 – One Shot
For this, you need to shoot a barrel and have the explosions kill the enemies and drones. You will only have one bullet, so you need to wait for everyone to be close enough. Shoot the middle barrel when the timer hits 4:16 remaining and you should get them all.
- Extra Op 057 – Paparazzi
- Sneaking Suit
- Camera
The target is on the docks in the building on the left side of the area. Tranq the guards around the building and then get in and behind the target. Take his picture when he is bending while holding the weapon above his head.
- Extra Op 058 – Paparazzi
- Sneaking Suit
- Camera
When the mission starts, the target will take off running on the floor below you. Stay on the catwalk. Don’t drop down. Run to the opposite side of the catwalk. Tranq the two guards up here and wait for the target. He will run up to where the second furthest enemy was on the catwalk. He’ll get behind the pillar and will start exercising. Take a pic of him bending down with the gun over his head. After, head back the way you came and roll over the catwalk and on to the goal to quickly end the mission. The goal will about in the middle of the first floor.
- Extra Op 059 – Ghost Photography
- Soliton Radar
- Camera
When the mission starts, get over to the second floor walkway on the opposite side of the area. You should see the blue vision cone on your radar. At the top of the stairs, equip your camera and slowly walk forward. The ghost will start to come up and appear in front of you through the camera. Take a pic when it is visible and then head for the goal.
- Extra Op 060 – Dead Man’s Treasure
- Soliton Radar
You’ll need to collect five items that are guarded by ghosts. Use the Soliton Radar to see the ghost’s vision cones. If you’re fast enough, you can grab the items when the ghosts are looking away. If a ghost is in your way, you can perform CPR on the nearby body by pressing the action button and that will git rid of the ghost. So, just look for an opening. If a ghost’s back is turned, quickly grab the item. If you can reach the body but not the item, do so and perform CPR to remove the ghost.
- Extra Op 061 – Dead Man’s Treasure
- Soliton Radar
To start, head down into the middle and revive the guard in the middle outside area. Then, turn around and revive the guard laying under the structure. From there, head over to the backside of the wall near where you start this mission. Revive the two soldiers on the way. Pick up the first item and then head back. Just below the box on the corner of the roof, you should see some smaller boxes. Use those to get on the roof. Once you’re up there, head toward where you spawned and then get over to where the ghost was floating over item 1. Crouch down and then slowly walk off the roof. You need to hang here and shimmy over to the other item on the roof. Once you’re there, pull yourself up, grab the item and then head to other side of the area. Revive the body and then climb the ladder. Roll over to the opposite roof and grab the last two items. Head for the goal. It’ll feel like it’s taking a long time, but it’s okay. I was able to get an S with a time of 2:50.
- Extra Op 062 – Dead Man’s Treasure
- Soliton Radar
- Sneaking Suit
This mission can be completed real quick if you have the timing down. You can grab the first box without reviving the first guard. The ghost will be look forward, you can get the item from the left side of its vision cone on the radar and then head toward the exit.
In the second area, stand up and keep running straight for the item. If timed right, the ghost will look left just as you grab the box. Keep going and head for the exit on the right.
In the third area, hang right and grab the box. The ghost will look left which opens a path to quickly grab the box and head through the hole in the fence. Revive the next guard and grab the item. Run to the next box, grab it and go left as the ghost looks right. Head for the next door.
In the final area, you can run in and grab the box and then climb the ladder to the right of the box. The timing on this can be tight, so be fast or revive the guard.
There is some time here to revive any guards if you feel more comfortable doing that, but just make sure to be as fast as you can.
- Extra Ops 063 / 064 / 065 – Pooyan Mission
For these missions, you just need to shoot every balloon and you’ll get an S. You cannot allow a single balloon to escape.
- Extra Op 066 – Missile Intercept Mission
For this mission, there will be missiles fired at Mother Base. All you have to do is shoot each one of them before they can hit Mother Base. All it takes is one shot to blow up a missile. You need to destroy every missile that is launched to get an S. You cannot let a single missile hit the base.

Stand next to her and say the phrases listed above. After saying one, there will be a heart over her head. That means her affinity has increased. Don’t just quickly spam the messages. You need to wait a few seconds between each one. If you use them too fast, they won’t register with her affinity. There is no time limit to the mission, so you can take your time here. You can repeat phrases that you’ve used already. If a heart doesn’t appear when using one, that means that phrase is done and will no longer work. Each phrase should raise her affinity by 10, so you’ll need to do it 20 times. When you have, equip the Love Box and Paz will join Snake inside the box to end the mission.
- Extra Op 068 – Date with Kaz
Just like with Paz’s date, you’re going to need to do the same here for the S rank. Kaz’s affinity will start at 0 and you need to raise it to 100. Unlike Paz, Kaz will not react to the same co-op comms, but he will react to some of them. Although, they are really not needed here. That’s because you can actually raise Kaz’s affinity by hitting him with CQC. You can stand in front of him and throw a punch at him. A heart icon will pop up. You can just punch him all the way to 100 affinity. Each punch should raise his Affinity by 10. Once you’re at 100, equip the Love Box and Kaz will join Snake inside to end the mission.
Vehicle Battles
For the vehicle battles, they’re going to basically all work the same way and use the same strategies. You’re going to want to have the higher end gear. When the battle starts, use the Gustav Fulton on the four soldiers, then use a rocket launcher to hit the front of the vehicle. After it takes damage more soldiers will spawn. Use the Gustav Fulton on those soldiers and then hit the vehicle in the front again to get it to drop more soldiers off. You need to repeat that pattern as quickly as you can until all soldiers have been captured. The captain should come out after all enemies have been captured. When he does, hit him with the fulton to end the fights.
For the custom vehicle battles, you’re going to want to use the M47. The customs can take a lot more damage than the normal ones. The custom battles will also spawn enemies in different sections of the map. They wont just spawn from the vehicle.
If there is anything unique about a specific mission, it will be noted below. Just know that the vehicles will all roughly follow the same strategy.
