Welcome to the Trophy and Achievement guide for the Definitive Edition of Grand Theft Auto III! Most of this list is the same as the older re-released PlayStation 2 version of the game. Some Trophies/Achievements have been removed and news ones have taken their place.
This is an overall easy list to complete, but it will require a decent amount of time to finish.
Ah-ah-ah! No Cheaters
Unlike the PlayStation 2 version of Grand Theft Auto III that was released with Trophies, you cannot use the classic cheat codes. Using any cheats will disable Trophies and Achievements.
Play It Smart
Part of obtaining 100% game completion will include completing vehicle missions. These missions will have you driving back and forth across the three islands. One of these vehicles will be the ambulance. You’re going to need to pick up and drop off many NPCs. You should do this mission very early on in the game on the Portland island. If you advance too far into the story, you will be under fire from various gangs when passing by them. This will make the ambulance mission very difficult. So knock this out early before the gangs start attacking you.
You should also collect the hidden packages and do the jumps in Portland before advancing the story too far as well.
Portland becomes borderline unplayable post game with how aggressive the mafia becomes in their territory.
Missables
Unfortunately, there are a handful of missable Trophies and Achievements that you will need to keep an eye out for. Luckily, all but one take place some what early on in the story. They will all be done on the first island of Portland. None of them are difficult, but just be sure to keep a manual save after each mission.
- Got This Figured Out
- Without a Scratch
- Planned Ahead
- Mob Boss
- Is That All You’ve Got
You will also need to play certain missions in a specific order to obtain “Is That All You’ve Got?.” Playing certain missions before completing others can lock you out of other missions which would mean that you would not be able to obtain 100% game completion.
You will need to have completed “Pump-action pimp,” “The Fuzz Ball,” “Dead Skunk in the Trunk” and “The Getaway” before doing the “Last Requests” mission for Salvatore.
You will need to have completed “Kanbu Bust-out”, “Grand Theft Auto”, “Deal Steal”, “Shima” and “Smack Down” before doing the “Waka-Gashira Wipeout!” mission for Donald.
You will need to have completed “Two-Faced Tanner” before doing the “Grand Theft Aero” mission for Donald.
Save, Save, Save!
At the time of launch, this game is not stable at all. It will crash on you frequently. Make sure to save your game as often as you can to prevent loss of progress.
Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Trophy & Achievement Guide
Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Definitive Edition Trophy & Achievement Guide
King of Liberty City
Unlock all trophies.
First Day on the Job
Complete “Luigi’s Girls”.
This is a story related Trophy and Achievement.
Without a Scratch
Deliver Mike Lips’ car without a scratch on first attempt.
MISSABLE
This is earned during the mission “Mike Lips Last Lunch.” This will be the very first mission you do for Joey.
Make a manual save at your safe house before doing any missions for Joey.
After making a save, go to Joey’s and initiate the mission. You will be on a timer for this, but don’t worry. You will have plenty of time to get this done.
Make sure to not hit any NPCs, cars or anything in the environment while driving the car. If the car takes any damage, reload your manual save and try again.
Drive to the marked location and get in Mike Lips’ car. Now, carefully drive to 8-Ball’s to load the vehicle up with a bomb. Carefully drive the vehicle back to where you got it and park in the parking space. Press Left on the D-Pad to activate the bomb and get out.
This will pop when Mike is killed by the blast.
Escape Artist
Use 20 police bribes.
Police bribes are the blue and yellow police badge floating icons. You can walk through these when you have a wanted level and they will decrease your wanted level by one star. These are found all across the three maps in the game.
You can also get some to spawn at your safe houses. For every 10 vigilante missions you complete, you will earn a police bribe at your safe houses.
Disposing of the Evidence
Crush a car at the junkyard.
This is a story related Trophy and Achievement.
You can crush cars at the junkyard near 8 Ball’s location. This is found on the north end of the Portland map across from the gas station. All you have to do is park a car under the big magnet. Get out of the car and the magnet will take the car and crush it. You can do this at anytime, but you’ll be required to do this during a story mission anyway.
Mob Boss
Keep the two mafia members alive during “Triads and Tribulations”.
MISSABLE
This is earned during the mission “Triads and Tribulations”. This mission will be given to you by Toni after you drive Misty around in the limo for Salvatore.
Pick up some weapons from Ammunation and make a manual save at your safe house before doing this mission.
You’re going to need to keep the two mafia members with you alive. It may sound tricky, but there are a couple of ways to make this easier.
The nearest enemy that you have to kill will be standing outside. You can just hit him with your car to kill him. You won’t even have to get out and risk it here.
Skip the second closest enemy that is found where you chased Chunky Lee Chong in a previous mission for now. You won’t be able to run him over. You will have to get out of your car and shoot him. This will put your two mafia companions at risk. So, save this one for last.
Drive out to the furthest target at the Turtle Head Fish factory. Do not enter the factory. Instead, go around to the back side and get out of your car. You’ll be able to see the target from a hill on the backside of the factory. Shoot him from here. This way you’ll kill him and your two mafia companions wont be in danger.
Now head back to the last target. As soon as you get there, quickly get out and kill the target. As soon as he is dead, the Trophy/Achievement will pop. Try to kill this one as quickly as you can because there will be a lot of Triads around this area shooting at you and the mafia companions.
Street Sweeper
Waste 100 gang members.
This is something that you’ll unlock when playing through the game’s story. There are seven gangs across the three different islands found in GTA III. Many of the story missions across the game will involve killing gang members.
It doesn’t have to be 100 of the same gang. This is accumulative across all gangs. This is something that you won’t really have to go out of your way for.
When killing gang members, be sure to use your fists or the baseball bat to get at least 25 kills in order to pop the “Come out to Play-y-y-y” Trophy/Achievement.

- Mafia
- Triads
- Diablos
- Colombian Cartel
- Yakuza
- Uptown Yardies
- Southside Hoods
Planned Ahead
Take out Chunky Lee Chong with a car rigged with a bomb.
MISSABLE
This is earned during the mission “Farewell ‘Chunky’ Lee Chong.” This will be the second mission for Joey. This comes immediately after the “Without a Scratch” Trophy/Achievement
Make a manual save at your safe house after doing the “Mike Lips’ Last Lunch Mission.”
Go to Joey’s and initiate the mission. Drive to the marked location and look for a station wagon like vehicle parked on the sidewalk near the target. Get in that car and go to 8-Ball’s to arm it with a bomb. Return the car to where you found it, arm the bomb and get out.
There are actually two of these cars that Lee can use to escape. You can arm them both if you want, but you don’t have to. Which car he takes will depend on what direction you approach him from. If you approach him from the north, he will take the car to the south. If you approach him from the south, he will take the car to the northwest.
Now, run down to where Lee is. When he sees you, he will run to one of his cars to try and escape. Let him get in his car and the bomb will explode killing him.
Got This Figured Out
Use a coach to pick up all 8 prostitutes in the mission “The Fuzz Ball”.
MISSABLE
This is earned during the mission “The Fuzz Ball”. This mission will be given to you by Luigi after the mission “Pump-Action Pimp.” Make a manual save at your safehouse after that mission just in case you need to reload and try again.
The coach is a bus type vehicle that you can drive. You’re going to need to get one before starting this mission. Two of them can be found parked in the industrial part of Portland at the south east corner of the map. You will be on a 5 minute timer, so make sure to quickly pick up all of the girls. Don’t drop them off one by one. Pick them all up and then take them to location.
If you fail, you can reload your manual save and try again.
This will pop when you reach the marked location with the coach full of all eight prostitutes.
Here is quick run down of what to do:
- After completing “Pump-action Pimp” find a coach vehicle.
- Return to your safe house with a coach and make a manual save.
- Go to Luigi’s and initiate the mission.
- Pick up all eight of the prostitutes with the coach
- Drop them all off at the marked location.
By a Mile
Complete the “Turismo” race in under 180 seconds.
Advance the story until you receive a pager message about racing from El Burro. There will then be a payphone ringing in Hepburn Heights that you can answer that will start the race.
Make a manual save at your safehouse before starting the race. If you run out of time you can just reload your save.
Before starting the race, go to the northern most part of Portland and grab the Banshee from the dealership near the gas station and fire department. The Banshee is very fast and handles really well.
This race can be replayed after completing all of El Burro’s missions.
Banshee location:
The beginning of the race can be a little chaotic. The other drivers are going to crash into you and all of the other cars on the road. Once you can get into the lead, the race becomes easier. When you’re in 1st with a little distance, you really wont have to worry about the other racers. Your focus then will be on hitting every checkpoint until the race is over.
If you’re having trouble with the other racers, you can actually box them in before the race starts. Park your car outside of the blue marker. Get some bigger vehicles and park them in front of the other drivers, Once they’re blocked in, get in your car and start the race. When the race starts, the other racers will be stuck trying to get around the cars you blocked them in with. So you can buy yourself a few extra seconds here.
Be careful when trying to block them in as this will be Triad territory and the Triads may attack you on sight depending on where you are in the story. They can make this very annoying.
Wreckless Driving
Perform a perfect insane stunt.
See the Trophy/Achievement “Wheels Up” below for more details.
Wheels Up
Complete 20 unique jumps.
There are 20 unique jumps across GTA III, so you’ll need to do them all. These are just ramps where you will need to jump off and reach a certain distance while in a vehicle. You’ll get an on screen message when you’ve completed a jump.
- Portland – 8
- Staunton Island – 4
- Shoreside Vale – 8
Come Out to Play-y-y-y
Kill 25 gang members with melee weapons/fists.
See the Trophy/Achievement “Street Sweeper” above for more details.
Where To?
Complete 100 taxi fares.
You will need to first get a taxi. You’ll have no problem finding one of these as they are very common across Liberty City.
Get in a taxi and press R3 to initiate the missions. An NPC will be marked for you to pick up. Once you pick up the NPC, you’ll need to take them to their marked designation in a certain amount of time. You do not have to do 100 of these at once. You can string together however many you want until you reach 100 total. You can press R3 again to end the taxi missions.
You will unlock the Borgnine Taxi will become available after completing 100 fares.
Liberty City Minute
Survive with less than 10 hp for 1 minute.
Your default health will be 100 in the top right corner of the screen next to the heart icon. For this, you need to get that number below 10. Take damage however you need to in order to get it under 10. You can start a fight and let yourself take damage, jump off of a roof, stand near an explosion, etc. However you want to do it, just do it.
Once you’re below 10, just survive for one minute. You don’t have to be in combat for the minute. If no one is after you, you can just set the controller down and wait for a minute.
Full Artillery
Use every weapon in the game at least once.
There are 12 weapons to be used in the game. You’ll use them all in Rampages when going toward 100% game completion. Other than the Rampages, you’ll be able to buy these from Ammunation and Phil’s Army Surplus. You can also unlock them at your safe houses by collecting hidden packages.

This is a story related Trophy and Achievement.
A Gift from the King
Complete the “Kingdom Come” mission.
In order to play the “Kingdom Come” mission, you’re going to need to complete all of the pay phone missions for King Courtney. “Kingdom Come” is the last mission in the quest line. These missions will be marked on your map as a phone icon.
Completing this mission will make the yardies in Staunton Island aggressive towards you. So complete whatever you need to complete on Staunton Island before completing this mission.
Man Toyz
Complete every RC Toyz mission.
There are four RC Toyz missions to be completed. All you have to do here is blow up gang vehicles with a remote control car in a set amount of time. You can start these missions by getting into a parked Toyz van. These vans don’t show up on the map, but they will be marked below.
You only need one kill in order to complete these missions.
Splish Splash
Extinguish 15 fires during a single Fire Truck mission.
You will need to first get a firetruck. You can find one parked at the fire station in Portland to the northern most point on the map.
Get in a fire truck and press Up on the D-Pad to initiate the missions. Once you initiate the mission, you’ll be given a destination that you will need to reach where a fire will be burning. You will need to put out the fire by using the truck’s hose. You will also be on a timer while doing these missions.
Unlike the taxi missions, you will need to complete all 15 of these in a single go. Do not press Up on the D-Pad or get out of the fire truck to end the mission until you have earned this Trophy/Achievement.
This Trophy requires 15 fires, but you should get an extra five to make it 20. You will need to put out 20 fires on each island in order to complete the Firefighter mission required for 100% game completion.
Playing Doctor
Complete Paramedic level 12.
In order to complete this, you’re going to need an ambulance. While in an ambulance, press Up on the D-Pad to initiate the paramedic mission. These missions require you to pick up injured NPCs and drop them off at the hospital. Completing a level will add more NPCs to your route, so this will get a little difficult. You’ll be on a timer and you can add time by picking up NPCs.
You will need to reach level 12 in one mission. Do not get out of the ambulance or press Up on the D-Pad to end it. Drive carefully as to not damage your ambulance. If it catches fire, your mission will be ended.
You can only fit three passengers in your ambulance at the same time. So when you get the locations of the patients, look at your map and plan out a route that makes the most sense to get them all while also dropping them off to make room in your ambulance.
You can also click in R3 to turn on your siren. Traffic will get out of your way and cars will stop at intersections when you drive with the siren on.
You will want to do this early on in Portland. After advancing the story too far, the gangs that roam the streets will shoot at you on sight. This can make the ambulance missions very difficult.
Going Rogue
Kill 15 criminals during one Vigilante mission.
In order to complete this, you’re going to need a police car. While in a police car, press Up on the D-Pad to initiate the vigilante mission. Before doing this, you’re going to need to have an uzi and have a lot of ammo for it. You will chasing down criminals in their cars. So, you’ll need an uzi to shoot at the fleeing criminals to stop them. You can get an uzi to spawn at your safe house by collecting 20 hidden packages. You can also buy them at Ammunation after completing the “Cipriani’s Chauffeur” mission for Joey.
If you’re struggling to get this done with the police car, you can also use an FBI car or the Rhino tank. The FBI car can be obtained by stealing one with a five star wanted level. You can get the tank by stealing one with a six star wanted level. It can also be found at Phil’s Army Surplus on Staunton Island near the stadium. The tank will be unlocked after completing the main story.
This Trophy requires 15 criminal kills, but you should get an extra five to make it 20. You will need 20 vigilante kills on each island in order to complete the Vigilante mission required for 100% game completion.
Dirty Money
Amass a fortune of $1,000,000.
This is something that you will automatically earn while playing through the game and going for the Platinum/100%. Don’t worry about this,
Right-hand Man
Earn a criminal rating of 2,500.
Your criminal rating will increase when you cause death and destruction. This is something that you may get by just playing through the game. Work on beating the game and other Trophies/Achievements. You’ll either get it or will be close to getting it. If you don’t have this by the time you have everything else complete, just go on rampage and start destroying cars and shooting NPCs.
You can track this in “Stats” screen of the pause menu.
Furious First Responder
Complete Paramedic, Firefighter, Vigilante.
The Paramedic, Firefighter and Vigilante missions are completed by using an ambulance, fire truck and police car.
Completing the Paramedic mission will require you to reach level 12 in the ambulance by dropping off NPCs at the hospital. You will need to reach level 12 in one mission. This will also unlock the “Playing Doctor” Trophy/Achievement.
Completing the Firefighter mission will require you to put out 20 fires on each island for a total of 60 fires. You will earn the “Splish Splash” Trophy/Achievement for putting out 15 fires in one mission. For this though, you don’t have to do all 60 in one mission. You can chip away at this however you like.
Completing the Vigilante mission will require you to kill 20 criminals on each island for a total of 60 criminals. You will earn the “Going Rogue” Trophy/Achievement for killing 15 criminals in one mission. For this though, you don’t have to do all 60 in one mission. You can chip away at this however you like.
Liberty City Secrets
Collect 100 hidden packages.
There are 100 hidden packages to collect across the three different islands. These can be found on top of buildings, inside buildings or even in underground sections. These are in the same places that they were in the original PlayStation 2 version of the game.
A new weapon will be made available outside of your safe houses for every 10 hidden packages that you find.
- Portland – 33
- Staunton Island – 35
- Shoreside Vale – 32

- Ramapages are the blue and white skull icons that can be found through out the three different islands. Interact with them and you’ll be required to kill a set amount of enemies in a set amount of time. If you fail, the mission will be moved to a second location. Those will both be marked below.

Really been enjoying the definitive edition and Hollows reactions to it. I’m playing through them starting with GTA 3, and I have to say, the gangs in this game are relentless when revisiting earlier parts of the map.
Yeah, the gangs are brutal when going back to the first island. The Mafia especially. Make sure to get everything done on that island before that happens!
