Metal Gear Solid 2 All Dog Tags

dog tag walkthrough

Welcome to the Metal Gear Solid 2 dog tags guide!

The guide below will detail where every dog tag can be found on every difficulty.

Most of the guards are wearing dog tags in the game. In order to get them, you need to sneak up to a guard and point your weapon at them to hold them up. Once they’re held up, get in front of them if you aren’t already, and point the weapon at their head. They’ll shake and drop their dog tags.

Some guards will refuse to give you their dog tag. If you point your weapon at their head and they don’t give the tag, you need to shoot them once in the arm or leg with a lethal weapon and then aim at their head again. Make sure you do this with a suppressed weapon, otherwise you’ll end up getting spotted via gunshot noise.

If you’re unsure if you’ve gotten an enemy’s tags, you look at their chest in first person to see a glint appear. You can also use thermal goggles to see of they’re wearing any as well. Look at their chest with thermal goggles on to check.

Alert team enemies do not have dog tags.

Some bosses do have dog tags as well.

You can use stealth on the harder difficulties to collect dog tags. Using stealth will cancel out the Big Boss codename, however.

  • Beat Olga non lethally. Pick up and drop her body after the fight to get her tags.
  • Fatman has Stillman’s tags. Beat Fatman non lethally and then pick up and drop his body to get the tags.
  • Snake has different tag depending on what difficulty you’re on. Knock him out unconscious when he gives you the HF Blade. Pick him up and drop him to get the tags.
