Fallout 4 Trophy Guide & Roadmap

Welcome to the Fallout 4 Trophy guide and Roadmap!

  • 4/10 Estimated Difficulty
  • 55 – 75 – Estimated Hours to Completion
  • 1 – Minimum Play-throughs with Save File Reloads
  • Every Faction Quest Related Trophy/Achievement – Missable Trophies/Achievements
  • 0 – Difficulty Related Trophies
  • 0 – Online Trophies

The majority of this Trophy/Achievement list will be spent working through faction related quests. You will need to play each of their questlines in order to get the Platinum. However, the actions required for these quests will make enemies of the other factions. Without strategic save points, it would be impossible to get everything done in a single play-through. Fortunately, those strategic save points have been listed below. Playing the missions in the order listed below will earn you every story and faction related Trophy/Achievement in a single play-through.

Everything else on the list is your typical open world type Trophy/Achievement list. Killing a certain number of enemies, discovering locations, crafting etc. None of the miscellaneous Trophies/Achievements are missable. The only Trophies/Achievements that are missable are the faction related quest Trophies/Achievements.

The one Trophy/Achievement you should begin as early as you can is the “Benevolent Leader” Trophy/Achievement. The required conditions for getting a settlement to 100 happiness are listed below, but it takes some time for the rating to increase. So, the earlier you can get this started the better. You can play through the base game and DLC while the rating slowly ticks up toward 100.

Fallout 4 DLC Trophy Guides

Every Ending Mission Order – 1 Playthrough

Play through Fallout 4’s missions in the following order and you’ll earn all of the missable mission related Trophies/Achievements.

  • Main Story
    • War Never Changes
    • Out of Time
    • Jewel of the Commonwealth
    • Unlikely Valentine
    • Getting a Clue
    • Reunions
    • Dangerous Minds

After “Dangerous Minds,” go do Minutemen Quests.

  • Minutemen
    • When Freedom Calls
    • Sanctuary
    • The First Step
    • Taking Point: Starlight Drive-In
    • Kidnapping at Oberland Station / Troubled Waters – To recruit settlements to the Minutemen.
    • Taking Independence – This will become available after recruiting other settlements to the Minutemen.
    • Old Guns – Wait about 3 days after taking The Castle settlement and Ronnie will arrive there. Speak with her to begin this quest.

From here, it’s time to begin the Brotherhood of Steel questline.

  • Brotherhood of Steel
    • Reveille – To begin, tune your radio to Military Frequency AF95. Let it sit for a minute and then this will complete. From there, you’ll have the “Fire Support” mission added to your quests.
    • Fire Support
    • Call to Arms
    • Semper Invicta > Quartermastery / Cleansing the Commonwealth – Speak to the two Brotherhood of Steel members at the Cambridge Police Station to get these quests.
    • Shadow of Steel
    • Tour of Duty
    • Show No Mercy

After completing “Show No Mercy,” it’ll be time to start working on quests for the Railroad. You should already have the “Road to Freedom” quest in your list, but if not, go to Diamond City and listen to the conversation being had by two NPCs near Valentine Detective Agency.

  • The Railroad
    • Road to Freedom
    • Tradecraft

After completing “Tradecraft,” switch back over to completing a few main story quests.

  • Main Story
    • The Glowing Sea
    • Hunter/Hunted
    • The Molecular Level – Speak to the Railroad and have them build the Signal Interceptor during the quest after speaking with Virgil.
    • Institutionalized – Join the Institute. This quest will become available as you head toward the elevator and hear Father speaking to you. When using the Network Scanner Holotape on a terminal, make sure to select the network scan option to complete Institutionalized.

After completing “Institutionalized,” it’ll be time to knock some more faction quest. First up will be the Railroad.

  • The Railroad
    • Underground Undercover – For this, you won’t actually be completing the mission fully yet. Advance the mission until you get to the objective, “Continue Working with Father.” Once you get that objective, do not advance the mission any further. Leave the Institute and get back to Brotherhood of Steel.
  • Brotherhood of Steal

Go to The Prydwen and speak with Elder Maxson. He’ll give you the quest, “From Within.”

    • From Within
    • Outside the Wire
    • Liberty Reprimed

Do not begin Blind Betrayal yet. For now, it is time to go back to the Institute’s questline.

  • The Institute
    • Synth Retention
    • The Battle of Bunker Hill – Choose to inform the Railroad during the quest. This will be an optional objective for the quest, but required for this guide. Make sure to do it before going to Bunker Hill. At Bunker Hill, get down into the basement and free the synths. Kill the Courser and then return to Father. While speaking with him, tell him that you were ambushed at Bunker Hill.
    • Mankind Redefined

[MANDATORY SAVE POINT] – After completing “Mankind Redefined,” make a separate save file and make sure to not overwrite it. We’ll need to load this file to get back to this point later on.

After making that separate save file, continue with the Institute quests.

    • Mass Fusion
    • Pinned
    • Powering Up

After completing “Powering Up,” it’ll be time to knock out some more Railroad quests.

  • The Railroad
    • Underground Undercover – Continue where you previously left off with this quest.
    • Precipice of War
    • Rocket’s Red Glare

[OPTIONAL SAVE] Feel free to make an optional save after “Rocket’s Red Glare” if you’d like. It’s not mandatory for all the Trophies/Achievements, but you can redo the ending if you’d like to finish the game with the Railroad by reloading from here.

  • The Institute
    • End of the Line
    • Nuclear Family

After “Nuclear Family,” you can make an optional save if you would like to keep this as your ending. You can reload this file after getting the rest of the story Trophies/Achievements to resume from this ending if you choose.

Make a save, or don’t. But in order to continue with the roadmap, you’ll need to now reload the mandatory save file we made earlier. After loading, we need to finish things off along side the Brotherhood of Steel.

  • Brotherhood of Steel
    • Mass Fusion – This time, you will have to inform the Brotherhood after speaking with Allie.
    • Spoils of War

[OPTIONAL SAVE] Feel free to make an optional save after “Spoils of War” if you’d like. It’s not mandatory for all the Trophies/Achievements, but you can redo the ending if you’d like to finish the game with the Minutemen by reloading from here.

    • Blind Betrayal
    • Tactical Thinking
    • Ad Victoriam
    • The Nuclear Option

And with that, you will have earned all of the missable story related Trophies/Achievements. If you don’t like finishing the game with the Brotherhood of Steel, go ahead and reload any of the optional saves to redo the ending with your faction of choice.

Speak to Sturges at Sanctuary and he will task you with building some items at the Sanctuary settlement. It’s basically a tutorial on settlement building.

You will get this if you are following the Fallout 4 Quest Roadmap above.

Community Organizer

Ally with 3 Settlements

A settlement is a location that allows you to build on a designated area. This is something that will unlock naturally over time as you will have to ally with more than 3 settlements as part of the main story as well as faction quests.

Outside of the story, Preston Garvey will have repeatable quests that send you to settlements to help them after establishing Sanctuary as a settlement as well as completing the Minutemen questline.

Benevolent Leader

Reach Maximum Happiness in a Large Settlement

This can easily be earned at the Red Rocket Truck Stop settlement. You’ll unlock this settlement very early on.

First, you will need to unlock the following perks:

  • Local Leader – Rank 2
  • Cap Collector – Rank 2

After you have those unlocked, build the following items at the settlement:

  • 2 Settlers
  • 1 Water Pump
  • 1 Food and Drink Restaurant (Tier 3)
  • 1 Turret
  • 2 Food

That’s it. That’s all you need to build. Don’t add anything else. Keep it to the list above.

fallout 4 trophy guide roadmap fallout 4 trophy guide roadmap

Make sure to do this as early on as you can as it takes time for your settlement happiness to increase. You can play through the rest of the game as well as the DLC while this settlement increases its happiness rating. Make sure to check on it every so often to make sure it is still increasing. If you get the message that it is under attack, go defend it right away.

If you don’t have settlers there, you can go to your other settlements and have settlers move. While in build mode, go up to an NPC and press / to move them. Then, select the Red Rocket Truck Stop to send them there. They may not show up right away, so you may need to rest a bit before they show up.

Once they show up, make sure to assign one person to the planted food and the other to the restaurant.

From there, just let it be while you play through the game.

Gun-For-Hire

Complete 10 Side Quests

Side quests are quests that are not part of the main story or given to you by the different factions. This is something that should naturally come as you explore the wasteland as well the various DLC packs.

You can keep track of how many side quests you’ve completed by looking in your Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Quest.

Mercenary

Complete 50 Misc. Objectives

Misc. objectives are tasks given to you by random NPCs. They can sometimes involve people from quests afterward, but these are usually very quick and easy tasks for you to complete. They’re not quite big enough to be considered side quests.

You can track what Misc. objectives you have by going to the bottom of your quest log in the Pip-Boy. It’ll be labeled, “Miscellaneous.” Select that and then you can see a list of your available Misc. objectives.

This can easily be farmed by using the Brotherhood of Steel as long as you are not hostile toward them. Go to the Prydwen and speak with Teagan. Buy all of the Vertibird Signal Grenades for sale. Then, sit down or sleep for 48 hours to refresh Teagan’s stock.

When you have however many you need to reach 50, get to an open area in the wasteland and throw a signal grenade. When the Vertibird lands, get in it. Getting in counts as a Misc. objective. Get back out, fast travel to a new location and then throw another signal down. You can repeat that process until this Trophy/Achievement pops.

You can keep track of how many Misc. objectives you’ve completed by looking in your Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Quest.

Scavver

Gather 1000 Resources Used For Crafting

Any junk you pick up while scavenging in the wasteland can be used for crafting. Make sure to pick up junk and then return to a settlement and transfer it over to the workbench. This is something that should come over time as you loot your way through the game and DLC. Always make sure to transfer your junk to a workbench when you reach your weight limit.

You can check how much junk you’ve collected in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > General.

What’s Yours Is Mine

Pick 50 Locks

In order to pick locks, you’ll need to have bobby pins. These can be bought from vendors or found while looting.

Doors, ammo boxes, suitcases, crates, lockers and explosive crates can all have locks that can be picked.

Be sure to keep an eye for locks to pick as you play through the game and DLC.

You will also need to invest points into the Locksmith perk in order to be able to pick higher level locks.

You can keep track of how many locks you’ve picked by going to your Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Crime.

RobCo’s Worst Nightmare

Hack 50 Terminals

As you play through the game, you’ll come across some computers that are locked. They will need to be hacked in order to access the computer.

The computer will list random characters with words mixed in throughout. In order to hack the computer, you will need to pick the correct word.

When selecting a word, the computer will tell you how many letters in the selected word are in the correct password. You will have 4 attempts to get the right word. If you miss every attempt, the computer will be temporarily locked. To avoid this, you can guess 3 times and then back out of the screen. Backing out will reset the attempts, but will give a different set of words. You can just repeat that until you guess the correct word.

You can keep track of how many locks you’ve picked by going to your Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Crime.

Armed and Dangerous

Create 50 Weapon Mods

Weapon mods are created at a Weapons Workbench. You can build these at settlements if one already doesn’t exist.

When changing a part on a weapon, it will count as a mod created. As long as you are upgrading weapons and changing their parts, this will eventually pop.

This can easily be farmed by using the weapon, “Deliverer.” This is a suppressed pistol that will be given to you as part of the story. Take it to a Weapons Workbench and take the suppressor off. Then, put it back on. You can take it off and put it back on over and over until this Trophy/Achievement pops.

You can check how many weapon mods you’ve crafted in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Crafting.

Wasteland D.I.Y.

Craft 100 Items

The items that are counted for this are Chems, Food and armor.

Food is crafted at Cooking Stations. Armor is crafted at Armor Workbenches and Chems are crafted at Chemistry Stations.

The quickest way to get this Trophy/Achievement is to craft Jet. You will need 1 Plastic and 2 Fertilizer in order to craft Jet. You can buy shipments of those from Diamond City as well as find junk out in the wasteland that breaks down into those materials.

Once you have 200 Fertilizer and 100 Plastic, you can quickly craft 100 Jet to earn this Trophy/Achievement. The Jet can then be sold for a high price as well after you’re all done with this.

You can check how many items you’ve crafted in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Crafting.

Never Go It Alone

Recruit 5 Separate Companions

There are 13 different companions that you can recruit in the base game of Fallout 4, but only 5 are needed for this. Some of them will be recruited as part of the story and others are optional that may require completing a side quest.

If you make enemies of a faction, any companion affiliated with that faction will no longer be an option.

Cait

  • Location: Combat Zone
  • Speak to Cait after killing the Raiders in Combat Zone

Codsworth

  • Location: Sanctuary
  • Speak to him after establishing Sanctuary as a settlement.

Curie

  • Location: Vault 81
  • Quest: Complete the questline in Vault 81 starting with “Here Kitty, Kitty.” She can join you after completing “Hole in the Wall.”

Danse

  • Location: Cambridge Police Station
  • Complete Brotherhood of Steel quests. Following the Fallout 4 Quest Roadmap above will give you the opportunity to recruit him.

Dogmeat

  • Location: Red Rocket Gas Station
  • Interact with Dogmeat at Red Rocket Truck Stop.

Deacon – Railroad

  • Location: Old North Church
  • Deacon will become available to recruit after joining the Railroad.

John Hancock

  • Location: Goodneighbor
  • Side with Fahrenheit after completing “The Big Dig.”

MacCready

  • Location: Goodneighbor
  • Speak with him at The Third Rail and you can pay him to join you.

Nick Valentine

  • Location: Diamond City
  • Speak with him after “Unlikely Valentine” and after searching Kellogg’s place.

Piper

  • Location: Diamond City
  • Speak with her outside of Diamond City and then again inside of her office.

Preston Gravey

  • Location: Museum of Freedom
  • Speak with him after establishing The Castle as a settlement.

Strong

  • Location: Trinity Tower
  • Rescue Strong from the top of Trinity Tower and then speak with him after you both escape.

X6-88

  • Location: The Institute
  • He’ll offer to join you after completing “Mankind Redefined.” This requires siding with the Institute.

Lovable

Reach Maximum Relationship Level with a Companion

Each of the different companions have different likes and dislikes. In order to reach maximum relationship level, you’re going to need to keep the same companion with you at all times. You’re also going to have to perform actions that they like in order to raise your relationship level. When you do something, you get a message on screen that will say your companion “liked” or “loved” that. If you see, your companion “disliked that” or “hated that,” reload your save and make a different choice or do a different action.

Make sure to speak to them every so often. Always choose the “flirt” option when it’s available. Eventually, there will be a “relationship” dialogue option available.

I found that Piper was best for this as her likes are the same as what you need to do for other Trophies/Achievements. She likes when you hack computers and pick locks. You’re going to need to be doing that anyway, so you may as well multi task by increasing your relationship with her while doing those tasks. In addition to that, she likes when you are nice or empathetic in conversations with other characters. Do not steal or pickpocket with her and do not be hostile or aggressive in conversations with other characters.

Fix-Er-Upper

Build 100 Workshop Items

This requires you to build at least 100 objects across your various settlements. Objects are built using junk that you find out in the wasteland. You can also scrap objects at settlements such as trees and cars to gain materials. You can scrap any object that was already at a settlement before you got there for materials as well.

When going for this, make sure to not build anything other than what was specified for the “Benevolent Leader” Trophy/Achievement at Red Rocket Truck Stop. Build your 100 items at your other settlements. Adding more to Red Rocket may mess up the happiness rating.

You can check how many items you’ve built in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Crafting.

Future Retro

Play a Holotape Game

As you loot your way through Fallout 4, you’ll sometimes find Holotapes. These can either be voice recordings or games. If it’s a game, select it in your Pip-Boy and you can then play it.

One of these games can be found early on in the story at the Museum of Freedom where you first meet Preston Garvey. It will be on the desk as part of a skill magazine.

…The Harder They Fall

Kill 5 Giant Creatures

There are many giant creatures that can be found in Fallout 4. For this, you only need to kill 5 of them. You’ll encounter some during the main story, but the kills will not count if you do not get the final shot that kills the creature. You’ll have a lot of NPCs with you during the missions where you have to kill giant creatures, so you may not get credit for those ones. Because of that, the five listed below can be found out in the wasteland in free roam.

  • Behemoth

This can be found to the west of Natick Banks.

This is something that will unlock over time as you travel through the wasteland of the base game as well as the DLC. Each time you come to a new location, it will then be marked on your map. This will also allow you to fast travel to discovered locations at any time. There are more than 100 to discover.

You can check how many locations you’ve discovered in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > General.

Print’s Not Dead

Read 20 Magazines

Magazines are items that are found in wasteland that will raise certain stats. There are actually over 100 of them, but you’ll only need to find 20 of them for this Trophy/Achievement. 20 of them are listed below. The locations listed below are places that you’ll go to for quests and/or Bobbleheads.

You can check how many magazines you’ve found in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > General.

Prankster’s Return

Placed A Grenade Or Mine While Pickpocketing

Before you can earn this, you will need to spend at least 2 skill points in the Pickpocket perk.

Once you have done that, crouch behind someone that is unaware that you are there. It has to say, “HIDDEN” at the top of the screen. Save your game and then press / to pickpocket. Tab over to your inventory and select a mine or grenade to place in the other person’s inventory. Quickly get away from them. This will pop after the grenade goes off.

Only transfer one grenade or mine over as transferring multiple will increase your odds of getting caught.

Reload your save if you get caught to try again or if you did this to a character that could alter your story progression.

Masshole

Kill 300 People

Any human you kill counts toward this Trophy/Achievement.

This is something that will come over time as you play through the base game as well as the DLC. You’ll be fighting a lot of human enemies as part of the story and as part of traversing the wasteland.

You can check how many people you’ve killed in the Pip-Boy > Data > Stats > Combat.

Animal Control

This is something that will come over time as you play through the base game as well as the DLC.

Just about everything you do will earn you XP. Discovering locations, crafting items, building, killing enemies, lock picking, hacking, completing quests and passing speech checks. You can earn a little more XP the higher your intelligence rating is.

This is not the level cap and there is plenty to do across both the base game as well as the DLC to get you to 50.

Prepared for the Future

Decide the Fate of the Commonwealth

This is a story related Trophy/Achievement that is earned by finishing either, “The Nuclear Option” or “Nuclear Family.”

  1. got the platinum trophy on the ps4 now trying to get the platinum on ps5, was wondering if the trophies auto pop if you have the ps4 platinum.

    • Hi there! Is it still possible to get the Platinum in one playthrough if I have mistakenly build the Signal Interceptor with the Minutemen instead of Railroad? Thanks in advance!

      • Honestly, I’m not sure. You might be okay, but your quests and reload points will obviously be different. Do you have any saves from before you built it?

      • Unfortunately not … I hope I won’t have to do another playthrough because of this. I had some quests to deliver to Preston and I didn’t realised he will answer to this one as well

  2. It seems I’ve been lucky. As soon as you get the Network Scanner from the Institute, instead of going to Sturges, you can go chat with Desdemona from Railroad and she’ll set you back on track.
