Resident Evil 4 Remake Trophy & Achievement Guide

Welcome to the Resident Evil 4 Remake Trophy and Achievement guide!

5/10 Estimated Difficulty – Updated to reflect the addition of Mercenaries mode added on April 7, 2023.
40 Estimated Hours to completion
Minimum Play-throughs depend on what route you want to take.
Everything outside of the story-related Trophies/Achievements can be missed

To start, this list is going to sound overwhelming. But it’s really not once you break it down step by step.

As you’ve probably seen, it is going to take multiple play-throughs to fully complete this. The majority of the list can be completed in a single play-through with the rest of the time being spent on story completion based Trophies/Achievements. Unfortunately, the Standard S+ cannot be stacked with the Hardcore S+. However, if you can manage to beat Professional with an S+ ranking (five hours and thirty minutes with less than 15 typewriter saves), it WILL stack and pop the Standard S+ and Hardcore S+ Trophies/Achievements.

Another method here would be to do an S+ Professional run using the Chicago Sweeper in order to unlock the Cat Ears. Wearing the Cat Ears will give you infinite ammo for all of your weapons except for the RPG. Because the ears are a costume, they could then be used on your new game Professional play-through to make unlocking the Handcannon easier.

** UPDATE ** With the free addition of Mercenaries mode on April 7, 2023, the Handcannon can now be unlocked by getting an S rank on all three stages of Mercenaries. Doing so will eliminate having to play the game on Professional mode on a new save to unlock the weapon. This completely changes the Platinum/100% difficulty and roadmap.

General Tips

Before beginning, here are some general tips to help you complete this list:

  • Do not sell your gemstones. You can inlay the gemstones you find into bigger treasures which will make them more valuable when sold.
  • It is okay to sell your weapons. The game will still count the weapons you sell as being “owned” for “Gun Fanatic.”
  • Your completion rank is only determined by how long it takes you to complete the game.
  • The game is broken up into three sections, Village, Castle and Island.
  • You can backtrack a location as long as you are still there. Once you leave a location and enter the next, the previous location will no longer be explorable.
  • If you’re stuck on a boss, the RPG can one hit them.
  • The charms that can be applied to your case via the Shooting Gallery provide various boosts.
  • Buy the treasure maps from the merchant for each location as they keep track of how many treasures you have found for each location.

Play-through #1

If you want to maximize your time here, your first play-through should be used to find all of the collectibles, get all of the miscellaneous chapter specific Trophies/Achievements and S rank all of the shooting galleries. This playthrough can be done on either Assisted or Standard difficulty.

During this play-through, you’re also going to want to upgrade your health by using Yellow Herbs. You’ll also want to upgrade your weapons for the following New Game + play-throughs. Specifically a pistol and knife as those are needed for a play-through of their own. When it comes to the pistol, there are two choices here. The Red9 or the Blacktail. Both of these are powerful weapons and will get you through only knife/pistol only run. For the Red9, you’re going to want to equip the stock for it to improve your accuracy. That does take up case space, but you aren’t going to be using other weapons anyway, so you’ll have space to spare.

As for upgrading the knife, you can actually pull off a little bit of a trick during this first play-through. When you reach the final merchant in Chapter 16, make a separate save there. From that point, finish the game and then buy the Primal Knife. This is found from the Main Menu > Bonuses > Extra Content Shop > Weapons. Once you have bought the knife, load up that separate save file you made in Chapter 16 and fully upgrade the Primal Knife. Then, fight the final boss and finish the final section of the game. This will make it so that you have a fully upgraded Primal Knife for your next play-through. What’s special about the Primal Knife is that it cannot break. This will lead us into the second play-through.

Play-through #2

For your second time through the game, you’ll want to only use your pistol of choice and the Primal Knife. If you made sure to upgrade them during your first play-through you’ll be going in with very strong weapons from the start. Them already being upgraded will also allow you to combine this run without talking to the merchant. Set the difficulty to Assisted and you can make this even easier here.

Play through the entire game only using a pistol, Primal Knife and don’t speak to the merchant at all on NG+. Doing so will earn you the “Minimalist” and “Silent Stranger” Trophies/Achievements.

There are a few exceptions that should be noted when using other weapons during certain story moments.

  • Explosive barrels do not void the Trophy/Achievement.
  • You can use the cannon during Chapters 7 and 8 to kill enemies.
  • The mounted machine guns in Chapter 15 do not void the Trophy/Achievement.
  • You have to use the Special RPG during the fight against Saddler. This does not void the Trophy/Achievement.

If you’re feeling confident you can even add two more stipulations to this playthrough. They aren’t a requirement for this run, but if you’re feeling up to it you can try to complete this run without using any of the healing items and under eight hours. If you’re able to do so, you will also earn the “Frugalist” and “Sprinter” Trophies/Achievements.

Again, they don’t have to be attempted here, but you may as well give it a shot. There are other speed run Trophies/Achievements that need to be completed that are under eight hours, so that’ll come later if it doesn’t happen here. As for not using any healing items, you can make that its own play-through if you’d like with bonus or special weapons to make it easier. That will add a play-through, but it’s easier that way. It’s up to you on how you want to tackle that.

Play-through #3

This step is for making the game easier in other play-throughs. Beating Professional with A rank (under 7 hours) will reward you with the Chicago Sweeper weapon and the Armor for Ashley. You will be able to use this weapon on the rest of your play-throughs which will make things much easier for you.

For the third play-through, we’re gonna step it up in terms of difficulty. You’re going to want to start a NG+ run on Professional difficulty and beat it in under seven hours. So, if you didn’t finish your second play-through under eight hours, don’t worry. You’ll get that here.

That might sound pretty difficult, but this can be made much easier by buying the infinite RPG. That will make this run very easy.

If you happen to die, you’re going to want to quit to the main menu and then load your game from there. If you select “Continue,” it will add time onto your play-through. Quitting to the main menu and loading your most recent save is a sort of workaround for this. So, make sure you’re saving at every typewriter you come across so that you don’t lose too much progress in the event of a death.

Mercenaries Mode

As of April 7, 2023, you now have two options for unlocking the Handcannon which is what this step is for. You can beat the game on Professional on a new save, or you can earn S ranks on all three Mercenaries stages. The easier route here would be to earn it via Mercenaries. Earning it on Mercenaries will allow you to use it during the steps below which will make the rest of this list incredibly easy.

In order to get an S rank in Mercenaries, you just need to score 200,000+ points. This can be done with any character. You just need one character with an S on each stage and the Handcannon will be available for purchase.

You can easily do this by stringing together long combos. If you don’t have a long combo going, don’t worry. That is a big help, but it is not essential like in Resident Evil: Village. You can just keep extending the clock while killing as many enemies as you can.

There are green orbs found through out each of the maps. Interact with these and they will increase your timer. The yellow orbs will grant you your special ability. This can be used to quickly kill enemies for a temporary amount of time.

Play-throughs #4 & 5 OR Professional S+

You have some options here. You’re going to need to get an S+ rank on both Standard and Hardcore difficulties. Unfortunately, these Trophies/Achievements do not stack with each other however, they DO stack if you earn an S+ rank on Professional difficulty. That You can either play them seperately on each difficulty, or earn them both at the same time on Professional.

  • S+ on Standard difficulty is earned by completing the game in under five hours.
  • S+ on Hardcore difficulty is earned by completing the game in under five hours and thirty minutes.
  • S+ on Professional difficulty is earned by completing the game in under five hours and thirty minutes with less than 15 saves used

By this point, you’ve beaten the game enough times to where you should know exactly what to do. So the time limit shouldn’t be too much of an issue here. Remember to quit to the main menu if you die so that you don’t add on to your time by re-playing a previously played section.

If you followed the order here, you’ll have unlocked the Chicago Sweeper and the Handcannon which you will be able to use through these play-throughs. Making things even more easier, you can actually get infinite ammo for the CS on these play-throughs. All you have to do is complete the Merchant Requests until you have 31 Spinels. You can then trade those with the merchant for infinite ammo in Chapter 7. So, you’ll only need to play through the Village section of the game without infinite ammo as long as you’re completing the Merchant Requests for Spinels.

OR it is possible to purchase exclusive upgrades for real money as of April 7, 2023. Doing so will eliminate the need for Spinels which means you’ll have infinite ammo available at the very first merchant in the game and not in Chapter 7.

If you have already earned an A rank on a NG+ run of Professional and Mercenaries, you’ll have bonus weapons at your disposal as well as Ashley’s armor which will make earning an S+ rank on Professional easier. Doing so will also eliminate the need for an extra play-through.

Professional S+ Time Savers

The rocket launcher can be used to get a few shortcuts through the game, but just know that you are only allowed three rocket launchers on Professional. You’re able to buy one per location. So, decide what would be the best use of them for your play through.

  • If you don’t have to kill all of the enemies, don’t. Run straight for the objective or the exit of the area.
  • It takes 15 kills or surviving for 4 minutes for the bell to ring in the Village. You can only hit the bell with a sniper rifle.
  • Do not go too far out of your way to collect treasures.
  • In Chapter 4, ride the boat to the piece of land on the far right side of the lake. There you will find several chickens and a golden egg. Keep the golden egg. You can throw it at Salazar during the boss fight in Chapter 12 and deal a huge chunk of damage to him that will also stun him.
  • In Chapter 7, you can shoot the counterweight of the cannon before the catapults start firing at you. Aim through the window of the tower the cannon is in and shoot the weight before advancing and triggering the catapult attacks. The window is to your left as you go up the stairs just before the first catapult attack.
  • In Chapter 8, you can use the rocket launcher to kill the giant throwing rocks at you.
  • In Chapter 9, the required time for the clock puzzle is 7:00.
  • In Chapter 11, you can use a rocket launcher to shoot the debris in the tunnel with Luis and it will clear it out of the way. You will not need to go get the TNT. Just do it from a safe distance as the rocks will roll toward you.
  • In Chapter 12, you can use the rocket launcher to shoot the statue of Salazar and disable it from blowing fire.
  • In Chapter 14, you can throw two heavy grenades at the crack in the wall and Ashley will open the gap in one hit from the wrecking ball.
  • In Chapter 15, you can use the rocket launcher OR heavy grenades to destroy the AA guns from the bridge when they are activated as you cross.
  • The rocket launcher can be used to one hit any of the bosses. I would recommend saving your island rocket launcher for Saddler.

 Cuz Boredom Kills Me

Obtain all trophies.

 Knife Basics

Parry an enemy with a knife.

Stand in front of an enemy that is wielding a melee weapon and let them take a swing at you. Press / to parry just before the enemy hits you.

You’ll go through a tutorial on this in Chapter 2, but it can be done earlier than that.

 My Preferred Piece

Upgrade a weapon.

Weapons can be upgraded by speaking with the Merchant at any of his locations.

Select “Tune Up” and buy any of the available upgrades for any weapon.

A Masterpiece

Get the exclusive upgrade for a weapon.

Exclusive upgrades become available during the Castle section of the game during Chapter 7.

You have two ways of obtaining an exclusive upgrade:

  • Fully upgrade a weapon and buy one for 100,000 Pesetas
  • Trade for an exclusive upgrade by exchanging 30 Spinels at the merchant.

Some Spinels can be dropped by enemies, but the quicker way to get them is by completing Merchant Requests. These are the tasks tied to the blue notes found through out the game. You’ll need to complete all Merchant Requests in order to complete the Trophy/Achievement list anyway, so you’ll have more than enough.

 Nice One, Stranger

Complete a request for the Merchant.

See the “Revolution Wind-up” Trophy/Achievement below for more details on all collectibles in the game.

 Talk About Near-Death Experience!

Rescue Ashley as she’s being carried away by the enemy.

  • Chapter 5

This can be earned as soon as you get out of the church with Ashley in Chapter 5.

When you get outside, there will be enemies waiting for you. Get their attention and just wait. One of them will pick up Ashley and attempt to walk away with her. All you have to do is shoot the enemy that is carrying Ashley and they will drop her which will pop this Trophy/Achievement.

 Revolt Against the Revolting

Destroy a Clockwork Castellan.

See the “Revolution Wind-up” Trophy/Achievement below for more details on all collectibles in the game.

 Harpoon Hurler

Defeat Del Lago.

This is an unmissable story related Trophy/Achievement that will be earned at the end of Chapter 3.

 Grilled Big Cheese

Defeat Bitores Méndez.

This is an unmissable story related Trophy/Achievement that will be earned at the end of Chapter 6.

Wave Goodbye, Right Hand!

Defeat the Verdugo.

  • Chapter 10

This is only half story related and it is not unmissable.

It is story related in the sense that you will be attacked by Verdugo at the end of Chapter 10 after restoring power. What makes it missable is that you don’t have to kill him. You can just evade him until the elevator arrives.

In order to earn this Trophy/Achievement, you’re going to have to kill him.

He takes a lot of damage so make sure you’re stocked up on your heavy ammo like grenades and shotgun shells. Make sure your weapons are upgraded as well.

When he first attacks, you’ll be in an enclosed room. You need to interact with the red pipe on the wall to turn on the nitrogen. Lure him into it and he will be somewhat frozen. Deal as much damage as you can to him while he is frozen. When the nitrogen wears off, he will run away for now giving you a chance to unlock and open the door to escape this room.

Once outside of the room, you’ll be attacked again. You will need to repeat the same pattern out here as you did in the room. Freeze him with the nitrogen showers. There are three nitrogen showers in the tunnels. Once you use them on Verdugo, they cannot be used again as he will damage them. Deal as much damage as you can while he is frozen.

If you’ve used all three of the nitrogen showers and he is still alive, focus all of your fire on his head. Keep shooting him in the head and he will eventually die.

Remember, do not get on the elevator until he is dead.

This is an unmissable story related Trophy/Achievement that will be earned at the end of Chapter 12.

You Used to Be a Good Guy

This will pop after the fight during Chapter 14.

 You’re Small Time!

Defeat Osmund Saddler.

This is an unmissable story related Trophy/Achievement that will be earned in Chapter 16.

 Shield Your Eyes

Defeat 3 enemies at once with a flash grenade.

  • Chapter 3

This can easily be earned in Chapter 3 right before you enter The Quarry.

You’ll pass through a section where there will be a blue Merchant Request posted on the wall on the left. Right through this doorway will be a group of three+ ravens. Throw a flash grenade at the three ravens and that will count toward this Trophy/Achievement.

 Never Heard It Coming

Defeat a Garrador using only knives.

  • Chapter 7

You will encounter your first Garrador enemy during Chapter 7 immediately after picking up the Dungeon Key. These are the heavy enemies that have their eyes sown shut. They also have big melee weapons attached to their arms.

When you encounter the first one, it will be chained up to a wall. Quickly get out of this room and go down the hallway into the next room. It will follow you. Crouch down and stay away from it. It won’t be able to see you so just crouch walk up behind it and press / to stab it.

Quickly crouch back down and get away from the enemy. Repeat that process until it is dead to earn this Trophy/Achievement. Remember, you cannot use any other weapon. Only your knife.

 Two Bugs, One Stone

Kill 2 parasites inside a Regenerador with a single bullet.

  • Chapter 13

You’ll encounter Regeneradors during Chapter 13 when you’re tracking down the Level 3 Keycard.

When you have the Level 2 Keycard, you’ll need to head to the Incubation Lab where you can upgrade the card from 2 to 3. Right next to the card upgrade machine will be the Biosensor Scope. Pick it up and equip it to a weapon. The easiest weapon to do this with is the Stingray sniper rifle.

resident evil 4 trophy achievement guide

Once you have it equipped, go into the area where the four Regeneradors are in the purple tubes. Aim through the Biosensor Scope and it will reveal weak points inside of the Regeneradors.

What you need to do here is line up your shot so that two of the parasites inside of a Regenerador are lined up. The Regeneradors in the tanks will not attack you until you shoot them, so you can take your time finding the perfect shot.

Once two parasites are lined up, fire a single shot to hit them both.

 You Talk Too Much!

Throw a grenade into Ramón Salazar’s mouth.

  • Chapter 12

You’ll fight Ramón Salazar at the very end of Chapter 12. Before going into the fight, you’ll want to make sure you have at least one grenade in your inventory.

This is easiest earned at the very beginning of the fight. At the start, Ramón will be straight across from you. He’ll drop down and come toward you. When he stops, he’ll open up his mouth. Have the grenade equipped and throw it when he opens up his mouth. You can use a normal grenade or a heavy grenade.

If you miss or run out of grenades, you can load your auto save and you’ll be right outside of the boss fight area to try again.

 Overkill

Use a cannon to defeat a zealot.

  • Chapter 7

During Chapter 7, you’ll be under fire from catapults. As you make your way through the level here, you’ll interact with a counterweight holding a cannon down. This is part of the story objectives.

As you cut the counterweight, the cannon will rise to the top level of the castle. Get back up to that cannon and interact with it. All you have to do now is aim at any of the normal enemy types that are trying to reach you and kill at least one of them.

It’s important to note that the enemies firing the catapults at you do not count toward this. It has to be an enemy coming toward you on the same level.

 Hope You Like Thrill Rides!

Make it through both minecart sections in the underground tunnel without taking any damage.

  • Chapter 11

During Chapter 11, you and Luis will ride a minecart. You’ll actually ride a minecart two separate times and they both count toward this Trophy/Achievement.

Luckily, there is an autosave before each ride. If you take damage, you can immediately load your auto save and try again. The cart’s health bar is in the bottom right corner of the screen. Keep an eye on it and if it is not full, re-load and try again.

The weapon you’ll be using will have infinite ammo and it will one shot the enemies in other carts. The enemy spawns are the same each time. Try to memorize where enemies come from so that you’re ready for them as they appear. There will be a chainsaw wielding enemy on the second cart ride. When he gets close, just keep firing at him. If he raises his chainsaw, shoot him to disrupt his attack.

Aside from enemies, there are other hazards you’ll need to be aware of. When the cart is taking a turn quickly, it will lean. When you see Luis lean to counter the weight, you need to lean in the same direction as him in order to keep the cart on the tracks.

There are also two sections where you will need to switch tracks by shooting a big red sign. In addition to those, there are also some sections of the track that are blocked by wooden boards. Aim straight ahead shoot them once to destroy them. Luis will call those out.

As previously mentioned, there are two sections here. If you make it through the first section with no damage, you will not have to do it again. There will be an auto save at the beginning of the second cart ride. This means that if you take damage on the second mine cart, you can load your auto save and only have to retry the second ride. You do not have to start all the way over. The Trophy/Achievement will still pop.

 Capacity Compliance

Reach the top of the clock tower without the lift stopping once.

  • Chapter 12

Toward the end of Chapter 12, you will need to ride on top of an elevator inside of the Clocktower in order to reach the top. As you ride it up, there will be enemies attempting to jump on it from the sides of the tower. In order to earn this, you will need to kill the enemies before they can jump onto the platform you’re on.

This section can be a little hard, so you’re going to want to make sure you have fully upgraded weapons and lots of ammo. There is an auto save just before you pull the lever, so you can load that file if an enemy happens to land on the elevator and try again.

Before pulling the lever on the lift, climb back up the ladder and pull the lever that drops the boulder down. There was an enemy manning this as you made your way up here. After pulling that, drop down and quickly pull the lift lever. If you did it fast enough, you’ll see the boulder rolling down the stairs as the lift begins to raise. The boulder will kill the first red enemy leader. That enemy spawns below you on the stairs as soon as you pull the lever. The boulder will kill it and you’ll not have fired a single shot yet.

After that, it’ll likely take a few tries to get through this. That’s okay though. It’ll give you an opportunity to memorize the enemy spawns. Just like with the mine cart, the enemies will always spawn in the same place. Another thing you want to do is make sure you’ve got weapons quick slotted so you can switch weapons instead of reloading. Reloading at the wrong time here will give the enemy the time they need to jump on to the lift.

There are also red explosive barrels lining the path up so make use of those to kill multiple enemies as they get near them.

Effective upgraded weapons here are:

  • TMP
  • Blacktail
  • Red9
  • Riot Gun
  • Stingray

If you’re really struggling with this, just go ahead and skip it. You can comeback on a different playthrough and use the Infinite Rocket Launcher to clear the enemies all out. This list requires multiple playthroughs to complete, so you’ll have multiple opportunities to try it.

 Smooth Escape

Escape on the water scooter without taking any damage.

  • Chapter 16

This will be the very last gameplay section of the entire game. It will be a timed section, but don’t let the timer force you into rushing through the section. You’ll have plenty of time to make it through.

There won’t be any enemies attacking you here. Instead, you’ll need to avoid debris in the water.

As mentioned earlier, there will be a timer counting down during your escape. Despite that, you can slow down and take some turns carefully or maneuver around debris carefully. Just make sure to keep an eye on the health bar in the bottom right corner. If you hit something, look at the health bar. Sometimes it won’t do actual damage. If you hit something and the health bar is still full, you’re still good. If the health bar goes down, you’ll need to load your auto save and try again.

 Astute Appraiser

Sell a single treasure for at least 100000 ptas.

  • Chapter 10

This can be earned in Chapter 10 after finding the Elegant Crown treasure in the sewers.

The Elegant Crown is found on the ground next to a dead body to the right of the wall that you need to knock over in order to squeeze through. This is the story path, so you’ll be taken right to it on your way out.

Once you have it, you’ll need to then inlay gemstones into it. You can inlay the following combinations of gemstones to get the value over 100,000:

  • 2 Yellow Diamonds + 3 Red Beryls
  • 1 Yellow Diamond + 1 Red Beryl + 1 Sapphire + 1 Emerald + 1 Alexandrite. You’ll be given a bonus for using 5 different gemstones which will get you over the required amount.

If you don’t have enough gemstones, you can trade Spinels for some or you can just keep the Crown in your inventory until you have enough.

Once you’ve inlayed enough gemstones, sell the crown at the merchant to pop this Trophy/Achievement.

Revolution Wind-up

Destroy all Clockwork Castellans.

There are a lot of collectibles to track down in Resident Evil 4 Remake.

  • 16 Clockwork Castellans
    • These are small statues that make a noise when you are near them. There are only 16. There is one in each chapter and you will need to shoot them in order for them to be “collected.” These will save when you shoot them.
  • 104 Treasures
    • These are found in the environment. If you bought the treasure maps for each area, they will appear on your map as a diamond icon. You can also see how many you have in the bottom right corner of the map screen if bought the maps. Treasure picked up by killing strong enemies do not count toward the total required for the Trophies/Achievements. If you die after collecting one, you will need to pick it up again.
    • The Treasure Map: Expansion DLC does not count toward Trophy/Achievement progress.
    • 39 in the Village
    • 41 in the Castle
    • 24 on the Island
  • Merchant Requests
    • These are quick side tasks that are picked up by interacting with blue notes found near the various merchant locations. Once you’ve completed them, you will then need to speak to the merchant in order to turn it. If you have to sell something to him as part of a request, you need to sell the required item and then it will be marked as complete.

Complete the main story on Hardcore mode with an S+ rank.

You’re going to need to get an S+ rank on both Standard and Hardcore difficulties. Unfortunately, these Trophies/Achievements do not stack. That means you’re going to have to play each one separately. You also won’t be able to get these on NG+. These will need to be done on a brand new save.

Despite the two Trophies/Achievements not stacking, the strategy for both is the same. The time difference between the two difficulties is only 30 minutes.

  • S+ on Standard difficulty is earned by completing the game in under five hours.
  • S+ on Hardcore difficulty is earned by completing the game in under five hours and thirty minutes.

By this point, you’ve beaten the game enough times to where you should know exactly what to do. So the time limit shouldn’t be too much of an issue here. If you die, quit to the main menu and load your save from there. Continuing from the Game Over screen will add to your time. You should also skip every cutscene as well as any unnecessary fights. Pausing the game will stop the timer as well. You need to pause the game. Going into the map screen or inventory screen will NOT stop the timer. You can check your time by pausing the game as well.

If you followed the order outlined in the intro, you’ll have unlocked the Chicago Sweeper and the Handcannon and will be able to use that through these play-throughs.

It is possible to purchase exclusive upgrades for real money as of April 7, 2023. Doing so will eliminate the need for Spinels which means you’ll have infinite ammo available at the very first merchant in the game and not in Chapter 7. This is a microtransaction available on whatever storefront is on your platform of choice.

 Peerless Agent

Complete the main story on Professional mode.

Professional mode is the hardest difficulty in the game. You can earn this Trophy/Achievement on a NG+ run. Which means you can use bonus weapons or the infinite RPG. With the addition of Mercenaries Mode, you are no longer required to play a Professional run on a new save file. So this has become trivial with the use of bonus and special weapons.

Here is what you can expect to experience on Professional:

  • Enemies are stronger and more aggressive
  • You take much more damage
  • Your / parry has to be perfectly timed in order to deflect an attack.
  • There are no autosaves.
  • You can only save via typewriters.
  • Ammo is scarce.
  • You cannot use special weapons to unlock the Handcannon.
  • You can only buy one RPG per location. Village/Castle/Island

Sprinter

Complete the main story within 8 hours.

See the “S+ Rank Investigator” Trophy/Achievement above for more details.

 Frugalist

Complete the main story without using a recovery item.

For this, you’re going to need to beat the entire game without using any health items. This is something that is better done on a NG+ Assisted difficulty play-through. This way the enemies are easier and your weapons and health should all be upgraded from a previous play-through.

If you want to really make this easy, you can buy the Infinite RPG from the merchant. This will make very quick work of every single enemy you come across including bosses.

Make sure to save regularly. If you get to an encounter and take too much damage, load your save and try it again.

You can check if any healing items have been used by going to Challenges > Main Story > Frugalist. As long as that is at 0, you’re safe.

 Minimalist

Complete the main story using only knives and handguns. (Excluding specific battles.)

Play through the entire game only using a pistol and a knife. Preferably the upgraded Primal Knife. You cannot use any other weapon during this run. This can also be done on a NG+ Assisted difficulty play-through to make things easier on yourself.

You can check if any other weapons have been used by going to Challenges > Main Story > Minimalist. As long as that is at 0, you’re safe. Make sure to check that before saving your game just in case you accidentally use a different weapon, you can load back before it was voided.

Silent Stranger

Complete the main story without talking to the Merchant once.

In order to earn this, you’re going to need to beat the entire game without interacting with the merchant. This is something that is better done on a NG+ play-through as your weapons will already have been acquired and upgraded.

You can check if you’ve spoken to the merchant by going to Challenges > Main Story > Silent Stranger. As long as that is at 0, you’re safe.

 Amateur Shooter

Complete a game at the shooting range.

See the “Real Deadeye” Trophy/Achievement below for more details.

 Real Deadeye

Earn an S rank in all games at the shooting range.

There are 12 different stages at the shooting gallery and you will need to earn an S rank on each stage. You’ll come across the shooting gallery at various points in the story. Each time you come to a gallery, new stages will be added. The older ones will still be available to play at each of the locations as well. These are always found right next to the merchant, so they are hard to miss.

For these, you need to get as high of a score as you can. There will targets that pop up that you need to shoot. Some will have skull coins on them as well. If you shoot the coin, you’ll be given bonus points. There will also be “innocent” targets that you must avoid shooting. These will subtract from your score if shot.

There will be bonus objectives at the bottom of each of the stages when selecting them. If you can hit these bonuses, you’ll be given bonus time after the stage ends. These will give you extra targets to shoot to run up your score. If you can reach the bonus section, you’re all but guaranteed to reach the required score for an S.

The targets spawn in the same places every time you try, so make sure to remember the patterns.

  • Chapter 3
    • 1-A
    • 1-B
    • 1-C
  • Chapter 9
    • 2-A
    • 2-B
    • 2-C
  • Chapter 11
    • 3-A
    • 3-B
    • 3-C
  • Chapter 15
    • 4-A
    • 4-B
    • 4-C

If you skip some of these on your initial play-through, all of them will be available during NG+ right away at the Chapter 3 location. Your previously earned ranks will carry over as well.

 Trick Shot

Shoot through and destroy 5 targets at the shooting range with a single shot.

This can be done during two different shooting ranges.

In 4-A there will be a long line of dog targets that appear on the left side of the range toward the end. The Punisher is strong enough to shoot through five targets here.

You can also earn this in 4-C. There will be two long lines of enemies that appear on the left and right side of the range. You can use the Stingray to shoot through at least five of them. Some of the targets are covered by barrels, so you’re going to want to aim for the heads to ensure you don’t hit the the barrels.
