Missable Achievements – Everything outside of story-related Achievements.

Starfield is finally here and it comes with 50 Achievements to earn. For a Bethesda Games title, this Achievement list is on the easier side to complete. It is going to take some time, but there nothing here overly difficult and best of all, the missables are much more manageable than other BGS games.

The first thing you’re going to want to know is that everything needs to be done before you complete the main story. After you beat the main story, you are automatically put into New Game +. This will reset all of the progress you’ve made toward any Achievements. The only exception being your level. Your level and perks will be the only things that carry over into NG+.

With that in mind, the final mission to look out for is called, “One Giant Leap.” If there is anything you need to do when you reach that mission, make a separate manual save to ensure that you can continue working on other Achievements.

The other thing to note is that difficulty does not matter. You can play on any difficulty you’d like.

Romance

Something you want to begin working on right away is marrying a companion. It takes a little bit of time to reach that point with a companion, so the sooner you begin working on it, the sooner you’ll get it out of the way. Doing this late in the game can make things hard because you need them to be with you as you make decisions and speak with other characters. To start, make sure to always bring the same follower out with you as often as you can. The game will sometimes force you take others with you for certain story missions. This is okay. Just as long as you switch back as soon as you’re able to.

Eventually you’ll reach a point with them where they will give a mission to complete for them. Doing that will pave the way for getting married to them. More details on that can be found under “Starcrossed.”

Factions

There are four different factions to join and you can actually join them all. Joining one doesn’t cancel out the other like you’d expect with such a choice heavy game like this. In addition to joining them, you will also need to complete all of the quests that they offer. None of those are missable.

Misc. Cleanup

Aside from marrying your companion, there are a few things you’ll want to focus on from the start.

  • Interact with any computers you come across.
  • Pick any locks you come across. This is going to require the Security perk.
  • Keep an eye out for skill magazines.
  • Always loot credits when you come across them.
  • Aid items, ammo, resources and items can be farmed at vendors. Buy everything you need for whatever item from a vendor, sleep or wait for 24 hours and return to find their stock is replenished.

Two Playthroughs?

As of the time of release, the best way I can see to reach level 100 is to do it via New Game+. You will likely not even be half way to 100 by the time you finish everything your first time through. That makes an XP grind post game very monotonous. In my opinion, something like that doesn’t suit this game and it isn’t worth your time and effort.

New Game+ evolves the experience of this game. There is a lot to do and many different ways to do it. It doesn’t have to be the exact experience you had on your first time through the game. This makes NG+ an easy recommend when it comes to reaching level 100.

I normally wouldn’t recommend a second playthrough if it can be avoided, but Starfield is a unique case, in my opinion. There’s just no other reliable, effective and fast way to gain levels at this time.

One Giant Leap

Remember, One Giant Leap is the final main story mission. You need to complete the rest of the Achievements except for reaching level 100 before completing One Giant Leap. Otherwise your progress will be wiped.

Build an Outpost

Building an Outpost can be added to your Activity log by speaking with Vasco after completing “One Small Step.”

In order to build an Outpost, pick out a planet and land on it. You may want to scan the planets and see what elements can be found on them before deciding.

When you have one picked out, land on it and equip your scanner. Press to place your Outpost beacon. That will be enough to pop this Achievement.

Shipping Magnate Shipping Magnate

Connect 5 Outposts with Cargo Links

Before beginning this Achievement, it is important to note that you will need to build at least 6 Outposts in order to earn this.

It is also important to note that this can be done by building the bare minimum of an Outpost.

So, before you begin, you may want to create a separate manual save. That way you can get your materials and or money returned to you. Unless you’re okay with spending the money and having 6 Outposts. It’s up to you.

It is going to require a lot of materials. So, head to New Atlantis.

First, go to Jemison Mercantile at the Spaceport.

starfield achievement guide

You will likely already have some of the materials, but if not, the minimum needed is listed below. Buy the following materials:

  • Aluminum – 72x
  • Beryllium – 12x
  • Iron – 120x
  • Zero Wire – 12x

When the vendor is out of stock, fast travel to your ship and sleep for 24 hours. You should also store the materials in your ship’s storage to avoid being encumbered. Repeat that until you have enough of the required materials.

With that done, find a planet where you want to build. Once you have your selection, land on the planet and enter your scanner by pressing . Then, press to enter the Outpost screen.

Place an Outpost Beacon.

starfield achievement guide

Then, tab over to the Misc. category and select the Cargo Link. Build it.

starfield achievement guide

With those two things built, leave the radius of your Outpost. Enter the build menu and keep going until you are able to place an Outpost Beacon. Place it and then build another Cargo Link.

Once you have the second Cargo Link built, go up the stairs to the top of it and interact with the console.

starfield achievement guide

Select the option, “Cargo Link” under Outpost 1. The two Outposts will now be linked.

Repeat those same steps until you have built and connected 6 Outposts.

  • Outpost 2 connects to Outpost 1
  • Outpost 4 connects to Outpost 3
  • Outpost 6 connects to Outpost 5

Industrialist Industrialist

Produce 500 Total Resources from Outposts

This is something that can be earned passively over time after you have built an Outpost.

After building an Outpost, select an Extractor from the build menu under the Extractors tab. The type of extractor you have available will depend on what resources your Outpost sits on.

Select whatever extractor is available to you and then press the to get an overhead view of the land. The land will be a different color where a resource is available for extraction.

Once you have the site picked out, place an extractor. Building multiple extractors will speed the process up.

Next, you’ll need to build a power source nearby. Build a Solar Array.

After that, select a storage container. Build a storage container next to your extractor(s). With the storage built, go up to the extractor(s) and press to “Create Output Link.”

starfield achievement guide

Highlight the storage container and press to link your extractor to the storage container. You’ll know this was successful when you see a red line from the extractor to the storage container.

As your extractor gathers materials, it will fill up. But having a storage container linked means the extractor will automatically send materials to the container. This allows you to build up materials automatically over time. You can connect multiple storage containers to the same extractor as well.

starfield achievement guide

If you build multiple extractors with multiple containers, your outpost will produce and store enough resources on its own while you play through missions or explore.

There are limits on the containers, so if you don’t have enough to hold all 500 at once, you’ll need to regularly come back to empty the containers.

You can also sleep for 24 hours at your outpost to speed this up, if you’d like.

Chief Engineer Chief Engineer

Modify a Ship

This can be earned right on the landing pad of New Atlantis.

There is an NPC stationed on the landing pad next to the ramp that leads down into the city. It is called, “Ship Services.”

starfield achievement guide

Speak to the NPC and select the dialogue choice, “I’d like to view and modify my ships.”

Select any of the systems and then select a modification.

After selecting a modification, press to back out and then press to apply the mod and pop the Achievement.

Stellar Cartography Stellar Cartography

Visit 20 Star Systems

See the “The Stars My Destination” Achievement below for more details.

The Stars My Destination The Stars My Destination

Visit all Star Systems

Before you can earn this Achievement, you’re going to need to do acquire a ship that can reach the furthest edges of the universe.

If you upgrade the Astrodynamics perk from the Science tree to Rank 4, You will reduce the cost of fuel used by jump drives by 50%. This will make it so that you do not have to buy a ship with a huge Gravdrive.

However, the perk is not required. It just helps out. If you don’t use the Astrodynamics perk, you will need to buy a ship or upgrade your own with a jump distance of at least 28 Light Years. This information can be seen on the ship details screen.

starfield achievement guide

In addition to that, you may also need to upgrade your fuel tanks. You can add extra ones to your ship via the ship builder at any Ship Services NPC at landing pads in major cities.

Once you have that taken care of, you can start travel to all of the systems.

A system will be a red dot if you have not travelled to it yet.

Unfortunately, just lighting up all of the red dots, won’t be enough to earn this Achievement. There are some systems that have their own systems that do not appear as individual red dots.

When you highlight a system to travel to, there may be more than one name listed.

starfield achievement guide

Example: When you select Alpha Centauri, you will also see, “Toliman.” You need to visit both Alpha Centauri and Toliman. Select the system with and press Down on the D-Pad to select the other option. Travel to both names.

There are multiple star systems that are like that so make sure you are aware of them when visiting.

Another way to tell if you haven’t been somewhere is check the survey percentage in the top left when hovering over a system.

Boots on the Ground Boots on the Ground

Land on 100 Planets

In order to land on a planet, you can select it by pressing and then press to open the planet map.

From there, select a landing area and you’ll automatically land on the planet.

This Achievement is going to require you to do some exploring. So you’ll have to go out of your way a bit to land on at least 100 planets.

The main story and faction quests will not take you to enough on their own.

You can track how many planets you’ve landed on by pressing > Y xb Status > Exploration > Planets Landed On.

It’s also important to note that you cannot land on Gas Giants, planets with extreme weather or planets made up of only water.

Fixer Fixer

Complete 30 Activities

Activities are short and quick tasks. These are acquired by talking to NPCs and your companions. Sometimes you’ll get an Activity just by walking past an NPC and overhearing their conversation.

They will be automatically added to your log and can be tracked by   > Missions > Activity. Select one to track it.

You can track how many you’ve completed by pressing > Y xb Status > Missions > Activities Completed.

Privateer Privateer

Complete 30 Terminal or Misc. Missions

This is something you will earn by completing all four of the faction questlines. The missions for those are counted toward this Achievement. So, you don’t really have to go out of your way for this one.

Other than the faction quests, Misc./Terminal Missions are missions acquired by interacting with a Mission Board terminal.

Interact with the terminal and select the mission you want to complete. These Terminals can be found in the major cities. There is one in the basement of the Lodge at Constellation as well.

starfield achievement guide

You’ll actually need to complete one of these when you join the Freestar Rangers.

Life Begets Life Life Begets Life

Gather 500 Organic Resources

Organic resources are flora (plants) that you can pick up on planets.

While on a planet with plant life, equip your scanner with starfield achievement guide and look for highlighted plants. Go up to a highlighted plant and press to harvest it.

You can track your progress toward this by pressing > Y xb Status > Crafting > Organic Resources Gathered.

If you’re looking to grind this out, land on a planet and harvest every plant you come across.

Rock Collection Rock Collection

Gather 500 Inorganic Resources

Inorganic resources are elements you can collect by using your Cutter. You’ll need your Cutter for this, so don’t sell it. If you do happen to sell it, you can buy a new one from Jemison Mercantile in the Spaceport.

While on a planet with plant life, equip your scanner with starfield achievement guide and look for highlighted rocks. Go up to a highlighted rock and use your Cutter to shoot it until it breaks apart. The element will be collected automatically as the rock breaks apart.

You can track your progress toward this by pressing > Y xb Status > Crafting > Inorganic Resources Gathered.

If you’re looking to grind this out, land on a planet and gather every rock element you come across. These will add some weight to your inventory, so make sure to transfer them to your ship or Outpost storage regularly.

Cyber Jockey Cyber Jockey

Bypass 50 Digital Locks

For this, you’re going to have to pick at least 50 locks. Before you can start picking locks, you’re going to need to unlock the “Security” perk from the Tech skill tree. You should buy the “Security” skill as early as possible so you can begin chipping away at this as soon as possible. In addition to that skill, you’re also going to need “Digipicks.” These are the actual lockpicks.

There are four levels of difficulty for locks, Novice, Advanced, Expert and Master. The higher the difficulty, the higher skill required to complete. You can spend skill points on the higher tiers of “Security” to be able to pick more difficult locks.

Before attempting to pick a lock, save your game. If you need to start over or undo an action while picking, it will cost you a Digipick. So, have a backup save before starting in order to re-load if you use too many Digipicks.

Make sure you’re exploring everywhere you go on missions. You want to look for Digipicks as well as doors, containers and terminals that are locked.

You can track your progress toward this by pressing > Y xb Status > Crime > Locks Picked.

Digipicks can be bought from vendors. You can utilize Jemison Mercantile to stock up on Digipicks. Buy all of their picks, go outside, sit on the bench nearby and wait for 24 hours. Return to the store and their Digipick stock will be replenished.

Jacked In Jacked In

Access 50 Computers

All you have to do here is interact with at least 50 computers. These can be found just about everywhere.

Whenever you see a computer terminal, interact with it. Be on the lookout for these while exploring on missions.

If there is a red icon on the terminal dialogue box when you approach it, you should stay away from it. Interacting with it could hurt your relationship with your companion or get you in trouble elsewhere.

Soldier of Fortune Soldier of Fortune

Mod 50 Weapons

Weapons can be modded at Weapon Workbenches. There is one of these in the basement of the Lodge. You can also build these at your Outposts.

starfield achievement guide

As long as you have the required materials, and required research level, you can mod your weapons. Research is done at Research Terminals. There is a terminal near the Weapon Workbench in the Lodge. However, for the method listed below, you will not have to research anything for this Achievement.

This can be completed very quickly by modding the same piece of the same weapon repeatedly. Follow the steps below:

  • Select a weapon category that is available to mod and look at the materials needed for at least two mods.
  • Go to Jemison Mercantile
  • Make a manual save.
  • Buy all of the materials from the merchant that are needed for your mods.
  • Sit on a bench outside of the shop and wait for 24 hours. OR go to your ship (it’s close by) to transfer the materials to avoid being encumbered and sleep for 24 hours.
  • Return to the store and buy the materials again. Repeat this until you have enough.
  • Equip your scanner and look at the Lodge’s icon. Press and fast travel to the lodge. (As long as you’re not encumbered.)
  • Interact with the Weapon Workbench and mod the piece you chose earlier. If you store the materials on your ship, you will still be able to mod without having to actually have the materials on you.
  • Now, just mod the same two pieces over and over alternating between the two until this Achievement pops.
  • Re-load your save to get your money back.

For example, I was able to mod the short barrel pictured below. When that was equipped, I modded the standard barrel. Just alternate between the two until it pops.

starfield achievement guide

Replicator Replicator

Craft 100 Items

In order to craft items, you’ll need to interact with an Industrial Workbench or a Pharmaceutical Lab. Both of these count toward the Achievement and both of them can be found in the basement of the Lodge.

This can be completed very quickly by following the method listed below. It is similar to the weapon modding method above.

  • Go to Jemison Mercantile.
  • Make a manual save.
  • Buy all of the Iron and Aluminum until you have at least 100 of each.
  • Sit on a bench outside of the shop and wait for 24 hours. OR go to your ship (it’s close by) to transfer the materials to avoid being encumbered and sleep for 24 hours.
  • Once you have enough of the required materials, return to the Lodge and go to the basement. If you store the materials on your ship, you will still be able to craft without having to actually have the materials on you.
  • Interact with the Industrial Workbench and craft 100 Adaptive Frames. You can set the quantity to 99 (or however much you need) and craft them. Craft 1 more if needed to complete this.
  • Re-load your save to get you money back.

The Family You Choose The Family You Choose

Recruit 10 Separate Companions

As you play through the main story, you’ll be able to recruit 7 main characters to your crew.

  • Vasco
  • Sarah Morgen
  • Sam Coe
  • Andreja
  • Barret
  • Lin
  • Heller

If you chose the “Hero Worshipped” Trait at the beginning of the game, you will also be able to recruit the Adoring Fan.

The characters listed above will talk to you at certain points in the story and mention they want to help you. Tell them you want them to join your crew.

For the remaining crew spots, you can go to bars and speak to NPCs and convince them to join. When you land on a planet, speak to the Ship Services NPC. They are always located near landing pads where you land. Tell them you want to hire new crew and they will tell you where willing NPCs can be found on the planet you’re on.

Once you have 10 this will pop. They do not have to all be assigned to a job for this to count either. Just as long as they’re part of your crew, it’ll count.

Starcrossed Starcrossed

Reach Maximum Relationship Level with a Companion

MISSABLE

This is something you need to get started working as soon as you’re able to. It takes a little while to reach maximum relationship with a character.

There is a point of the story that you do need to be on the lookout for though.

SPOILER
In the main mission, High Price to Pay, it is possible for your companion to die. Whoever you have the highest affinity with will be in danger aboard The Eye. You will need to make a choice here. Go to The Eye, or stay at the Lodge. If you do not go to The Eye, your companion will die. If you started working on your relationship early enough, it is possible for you to already be married by this point. But if not, you will need to start over with a new companion if you allow your original one to die here. So again, go to The Eye to prevent your companion from dying in the mission High Price to Pay.

For this, it does not matter what gender you chose and what gender your companion is. This is not like Mass Effect where certain characters can only be romanced by certain genders.

The characters you can choose from are listed below:

  • Sarah Morgen
  • Andreja
  • Sam Coe
  • Barret

In order to get this, you’re going to have to always take your companion of choice out with you on missions. You need to them around to be part of conversations and actions to improve their relationship with you.

There will be some missions that require a certain companion to be with you. That’s okay, just make sure to switch back to your romantic companion as soon as you’re able to do so. Below is everything you need to know on romancing characters.

  • You can buy Rank 1 of the Leadership perk for companions to gain affinity 25% faster. This is not required. It’s just a quick boost and it is pretty far into the Social skill tree.
  • While in conversations, you’ll obviously have dialogue options. Certain choices will make your companion react positively or negatively. The longer you’re with your companion, the more you’ll learn what choices they prefer. If you make a choice they approve of, you’ll see a message in the top right corner that says, “Companion Liked That.” You want to get as many of those as possible. The more of those you see, the further your relationship will progress. You will lose relationship progress if you say or do something that your companion does not like. So, if you see the message in the top right saying, “Companion Disliked That,” you’ll need to re-load your most recent auto save and try again.
  • Whenever you hear companion ask to speak with you, speak with them and react positively to them.
  • Always select the [FLIRT] dialogue option when it is available.
  • If you’ve improved the relationship enough, your companion will eventually give you a mission to complete with them. This will have to do with something going on in their life that they want you to help solve. Think of it as a loyalty mission from Mass Effect. After completing their mission, They’ll eventually want to you to meet them somewhere. Go to their location and select the [ROMANCE] dialogue option when given the choice.
  • After that, some time will need to pass and they will talk to you again. Select the [COMMITMENT] option when it is available.
  • After more time passes, you will then be able to marry your companion which will pop the Achievement.

War of Angels War of Angels

Collect 20 Quantum Essence

Quantum Essence is collected by killing two specific enemy types. I’ll try to avoid spoilers as best I can here.

SPOILER
Starborn and Guardians

When you kill these enemies, you will automatically acquire the Quantum Essence. You do not need to loot it.

You will not encounter these enemy types until later on in the story. Type #1 will spawn when you pick up Artifacts and type #2 can be found at temples.

You will encounter a lot of enemy type 1 during the main story, but not enough for the Achievement.

Enemy type #2 can be encountered by progressing through the “Power From Beyond” questline. This questline will be automatically added your mission log during main story mission, “Into the Unknown.”

It is also important to note that you do not have to have all 20 on you at the same time. It is okay to spend them. This is cumulative.

You can track how many you have by pressing  > Bottom left corner Quantum Essence.

Fleet Commander Fleet Commander

Collect 10 Ships

All you have to do here is acquire at least 10 ships. There are multiple ways of going about this.

  • You’ll get three ships during the main story and factions questlines.
  • Buying ships. After completing most of the story and all of the factions quests, you’ll have a lot of money if you’ve been saving up. Make a manual save and buy ships from Ship Services NPCs that are found at landing pads. Buy enough to reach 10 and then re-load your save to get your money back.
  • Dogfighting. When in combat against another ship, you can target their engines if you have the Targeting Control Systems Rank 1 perk unlocked. Disable the engines, board the ship, kill the enemies on board, sit in the pilot’s chair and fly it.
  • Stealing. While on a planet, you will occasionally see random ships land. When they land, wait for the occupants to leave. You can then sneak onto their ship and steal it.

You’re going to need to have a couple of perks unlocked for some of the methods above. You’ll need Rank 4 of Piloting unlocked to be able to fly any class of ship. You will also need Rank 3 of the Security perk in order to be able to lockpick any level of door. Ship doors can vary in lock difficulties if you’re trying to steal unattended ships.

For this Achievement, you do not have to register them. You’ll need to register them if you’re planning on selling the ships you steal or take over.

Dark Matter Dark Matter

Another Bug Hunt Another Bug Hunt

Eliminate 300 Creatures

This is something that may come over time as you work your way through the main story and faction missions.

This counts anything that is not a robot or human.

When you’re traveling to or from an objective on any planet, make sure to kill any creatures you come across on your way.

You can track this by pressing > Status > Y xb > Combat > Creatures Killed.

I Use Them For Smuggling I Use Them For Smuggling

Successfully Smuggle Contraband

In order to smuggle contraband, you’re going to have to modify your ship a bit as well as obtain some contraband.

Before doing anything, make a manual save that you can re-load after this process. It can get a little messy.

  • Step 1

Travel to the Red Mile on planet, Porrima III. This is found in the Porrima System. Once there, go inside the Red Mile and speak to Lon Anderssen.

starfield achievement guide

While speaking to him, select the dialogue option, “I’d like to view and modify my ships.” Enter the ship builder and buy any cargo bay that has the word, “Shielded,” in the name. Attach it to your ship.

starfield achievement guide

Next, buy a scan jammer from the Equipment tab and attach it to your ship. You can increase your chances of getting through security by installing multiple shielded cargo bays and multiple scan jammers.

starfield achievement guide

  • Step 2

Travel to the Neon Core on planet, Volii Alpha found in the Volii System.

Once there, head into the Astral Lounge nightclub and speak to the bartender, Boone Morgan.

starfield achievement guide starfield achievement guide

Ask to look at the menu and then buy 1 Aurora from Boone Morgan. The fewer contraband items you have, the more likely you are to get by the scanners. You’ll notice there is a little yellow icon next to the item name. This means it is considered contraband.

starfield achievement guide

  • Step 3

Return to your ship. You won’t be able to fast travel with contraband. So, head for the elevator under the sign that says, “Spaceport Terminal.” Ride that elevator to your ship.

starfield achievement guide

As you approach your ship, guards will recognize that you are in possession of Aurora. They’ll try to arrest you so you need to run. Quickly sprint to your ship and take off.

Once you’re in space, get up from your cockpit by holding and place the Aurora in your ship’s storage.

  • Step 4

Make a separate manual save. Make sure this is a different save file than the one we started with here.

Travel to any major city and try to get by the scanner. As soon as you approach a planet with a major city, you will be automatically scanned for contraband.

A percentage will appear with your chances of evading the scan while you’re being scanned. If you get through, the Achievement will pop. If you’re detected, reload the save you just made and try until you get through.

Once the Achievement pops, re-load the original save made before doing any of this in order to get your money back, lose your bounty and or repair any relationships that may have been affected.

Reach for the Stars Reach for the Stars

Reach Level 100

This will very likely be your final Achievement needed. Unfortunately, it is highly likely that you will not reach 100 by the end of the game. Even after completing everything else on this list.

This will be updated if a fast leveling method is discovered. But for now, everything I’ve tried to work up has been very tedious and boring. Just not worth your time.

For now, I would recommend rolling right into New Game +. Start NG+ when everything else on this list has been completed.

Your character level and perks will carry over when beginning NG+. Starfield is a huge game. There is a lot to discover and many different ways to play through it. A second playthrough here isn’t the usual grind that you’ll find in other games. NG+ manages to change the experience the more times you play through it. So, it might sound like a grind, but it appears to be different with Starfield.
